Balanced Question Time panel tonight - of course not!
Discussion
Interesting panel. I knew one of the five panellists was a Labour MP then Starmer says he's supported the Labour Party and Rod says he's a member of the Labour Party. 5 panellists and 3 are Labour, members, politicians or supporters. Did no one else want to go to Dover from this side of the channel?
Other than that - why did no one ask what's wrong with France? We are in a European Union with them but apparently people in Calais aren't safe and are in fear of their lives. Very xenophobic IMO to be so insulting to the French.

I thought Schama was utterly wrong, his self-Godwin was shameful and unhelpful; the people drowning in the Med are not fleeing in fear of their lives to escape genocide. The camps in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt aren't great, but most of the failure or lack of facilities or services(particularly education) is down to european countries not paying their dues to the UNHCR. If the camps were properly funded the desire to seek pastures new would be much less and could probably be met by controlled immigration to the EU.

Anti-EU feeling running strong in this crowd.
I would have guessed that Simon's response would go well over the heads of the audience. They normally do.
Forgive me if your post has gone over my head but he regurgitates loosely coupled historical events and bullst phrases in rapid succession and this is perceives it to be wisdom?I would have guessed that Simon's response would go well over the heads of the audience. They normally do.
E.g. "rising-tide-floating-boats" ?
How about "Flappy-arms-hurry-up" !
Simon is for staying in a reformed EU but doesn't state clearly what reform other than he wants sovereignty and our own parliament to maintain power yet this goes against the direction of the EU. We then get to hear Europe was formed after the war and that until the refugee crisis, the EU was a 'fine tuner of finance and economics' (hmmm ignoring recent history). He then flaps onto insinuating that the referendum is going to be decided on a 'cost accountancy basis'. Maybe in his world, but I hear more about other issues: the lack of democracy, levels of migration, services and planning, housing, social cohesion, religous influence...etc.
More flapping informs us that Britain, in a historical context, is part of the larger community because his own family come from Europe, the 4 year wait for new migrants to receive benefits is brutal, and a minority of 21% Syrian refugees among majority of 79% economic migrants from the North Africa and the Middle East crossing through Europe to reach the UK is the same as the Jews fleeing persecution.
A true visionary !
interesting audience, somewhat different from the norm..
Simon's a moron, does he live in the real world?
Rod Liddle actually came over like he was thinking for a change, and made some good points without the usual sycophantic bullst.
Louise Haigh is just an idiot, all she could do was blame the tories for everything
Roger did OK, failed to get the whole message across, but did hold his ground well.
Amber rudd, remind me what she is supposed to be doing again?
Shame they never actually got to talk about redcar properly and the reasons it's died.

What arrogant words and disconcern for people who are up to their necks in problems. So they are drowning in the Med for fun they like swimming? I've never lived or survived in a camp but the last thing I should think is education for these people.Sanitation, food a decent bed to sleep in is their no1 priority. They are in survival mode fleeing warzones. The more I hear UKIP Candidates the less human I feel. problem is that's simply not what's happening.if they are fleeing a war zone, why are they taking boats from Turkey? is Turkey at war?
and the ones coming via Libya, so, they are entering a war zone to catch a boat?
all this talk of taking on migrants is laughable, where do you propose we put them all and how do we pay for it?
may I remind you we are running a pretty big deficit already?

I heard that towards the end - how very representative of UK 2015.Very enjoyable programme - some good insults, Schama looking and acting quite mental, Liddle sounding very reasonable on many issues, Helmer reasonable too. IMHO.
The one issue where both Labour and Tory were skewered was grammar schools - neither was able to offer a coherent policy as to why any educational establishment can be offered as long as it isn't a Grammar. Just bonkers. And these are our two leading parties.
As for "they're all HUMANS" - so are ISIL, Boko Haram, Al Nusr Front, Al Queda and Hezbollah - what is your point luv?
The young lady worried about the chaps in Calais - doesn't think they should necessarily come to the UK but has no idea what we should do with them...how about we ask France to sort out the problem - it's on their land. These people are apparently travelling across that sovereign nation with impunity.
So even with a 60% Labour panel it was still a good show.

Vigorous debate on the history of paedophilia in the UK establishment on This Week.
That old bat was fairly dishing out the death stare; she wasn't having any of it, St. Watson of Thomas is without sin and shall not apologise for owt.Whereas in reality, however laudable his actions are in the collective effort to get historic crimes investigated, massaging his ego by character assassination of people is an abuse of parliamentary privilege and demeans the victims of abuse he's been working to obtain justice for.

Can't recall ever seeing a question criticising the Labour party becoming a story on the BBC News website.

What she seemed to be reduced to is that the mere inclining of sexual abuse vindicated a public naming-and-shaming with the accuser being conveniently protected by parliamentary privilege - that is absolutely ridiculous!
Andrew did a great job of closing her down before putting on his sunglasses as well
