Bloke Murders His Family Over Debts?

This is a complete tragedy but I just cannot fathom how a man can come to the conclusion that murdering his entire family is a better option than facing bankruptcy. There was a documentary about a guy buring his house down for similar reasons a while back and it bamboozled me then....very very sad.

This is the film I mentioned - one of the most chilling documentaries I've ever seen.

People don't decide to murder their own family as part of some rational, well thought out plan.Marty Funkhouser said:

It's a bit fking dark isn't it... all those shots of the charred house... when the policeman picks up that photo album and flicks through it with all the photos of the little girl, the wedding video etc... seems very cynically contrived.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSQrZUc7bDk

Knew the Fosters quite well. Tragic case
What was he like? Very money orientated I guess....I guess he just considered his family as possessions and if he couldn't have them, then nobody else could.
Why he didn't just go in to the woods, and blow his own head off, always baffles me!

I followed the Foster story quite closely when it happened, and watched the documentary not long afterwards purely because I just can't understand how anyone could do this to their family. Accidently killing someone in a fit of temper I can just about fathom but why take your poor wife and family with you?
I hope the two wee kiddies in this recent case went quickly and weren't aware of what was happening.

A truly sad affair, on a personal note about 18 years ago when we lived in Manchester my wife and I were under extreme financial pressure due to a failing business venture, mortgage arrears, credit debts etc and 2 young one to look after.
Never at any point did we feel so bad as to go this extent, as bad as it was at the time and it did cause problems between us at the time, it was only money and the banks etc couldn't have what we haven't got. So we were declared bankrupt, liquidators came in we lost our house, cars the lot but the sense of relief of not having to constantly chase money outweighed any guilt we had about not being able to pay off the debts involved.
It did mean that we couldn't even get finance for a stamp for 7 years but we accepted that.
