Two million sick benefits claimants fit for work.
Discussion
I think many of us knew this would be the case.
If there's around 2.5mil unemployed...what jobs are we going to get this other two million who were previously on sick benefits to do?
Personally I'm all for them cleaning rubbish, licking the roads clean, cleaning grafitti etc. But practically speaking, what can they do that will cost less than 'doling' out £90quid a week to them (i.e. if we have to 'create' jobs to do or monitor their work, it will cost - though I take the point it costs to admisrate benefits anyway).

Atos Healthcare, the company which carries out the tests, doesn't see eye to eye with the appeals tribunals. Atos finds that only 18% of claimants are eligible for ESA. 39% are judged fit for work and placed on jobseeker's allowance (JSA). The rest drop out during the process. Of the 39%, a third appeal, and 40% of those who appeal without legal advice win: for those who appeal with legal advice, the success rate rises to 70%.
Taken from Times but now behind paywall.

so take a representative sample of 100 people who have been claiming ESA: Taken from Times but now behind paywall.
18 Should have been claiming- LESS than 1 in 5.
43 People don't even try and claim that they should have been on ESA
26 People try and claim and fail the test.
6 People Claim, are told they are inefligible, appeal and are still told they are ineligible
7 people claim are told they are ineligible, appeal and are then allowed to claim ESA
Giving a grand total of 25 People who can ACTUALLY CLAIM ESA legitimately.69 who have blatanly been lying an possibly about 6 who really feel they should'nt be working.

The figures, from the Department for Work and Pensions also showed those with severe disabilities, six per cent – 40,100 people – were not entitled to the payment.
As are those banned from ANY benefit having paid Tax, NI all their lives. fking disgraceful system that has been driven out of control by left wing eco-politics and PC.

Like your brother who is a vegetable claiming from work and pensions when they have never been at work and could never do work... harsh but fair I suppose
We could get a lot of folk off benefits if it was more financially attractive to them to work. We should totally exempt long-term unemployed or jobseekers from the tax system for the first 12 months so they keep everything they make. Result: employer can pay slightly lower wages, and employee can accept and manage on that wage. At end of 12 months, employees go into the tax system, employer keeps them on with a cushioning wage increase (if they're any good) or gets rid (if they're not). A bit like the scrappage scheme, but for people.

I would say yes but despite being made redundant, I do not qualify for JSA (despite obviously seeking employment) just how AM I supposed to fund travel to interviews
From your savings and/or redundancy payment. You do have savings, right?OH wasnt allowed as a) she was coming off being a student b) very little NI Credits c) I was working and therefore it was deemed acceptable for me to pay d) She is foreign but in the EU.

Surely it's 2million people who can't find work that they want or are prepared to do, as opposed to 2million people who can't find any work at all?
It's 2 million people that could pick veg for £8 an hour but wont, yet are equally happy to moan about eastern europeans doing it.Bone idle on-the-breast underclass mother fkers.
Render 'em down.
We're told by the Govt that the economic recovery must be business-led, not consumer-led. In other words we can't spend our way out of it cos we haven't got any dosh. So the answer is to get businesses growing. There are big markets out there, ironically in the places we used to look down on in the old days, but business growth will only happen if (a) the banks stop being so bloody stupid about lending money to businesses and (b) if new job starters are taken right out of the tax system for a decent period of time.

The system has become so rife with abuse those that have contributed all their working lives are being turned away when they ask for a little short term help.
Compare this with the excellent IMO German schemes where the aim is to retain social cohesion and prevent people and families failing and ending up on the streets open to abuse and all the rest.
