Terrible item of news:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/25/mi6-wo...

What I found strange was the police quote:

The location of the five-storey townhouse, just a mile from MI6 headquarters, fuelled speculation that the man was working there before his death.
But a police source stressed that the man had not been formally identified, saying that while his employment documentation suggested he had indeed worked for the secret service, "he might have been an air conditioning technician rather than a spy".

Show me an air conditioning technician that can afford the rent on an apartment in a townhouse in Pimlico....??

I expect the conclusion to any inquiry will be; amateur escapologist failure.

'cause its likely that if he really was any kind of MI6 spy ( as sky news seem very excited about ), that this story would be anywhere near the press... rolleyes

Hide in plain sight, plausible deniability etc etc.

Sounds a bit messy for an assassination - if he was really (conspiracy hats on) targeted because he was MI6, I thought hitmen just shot them in the head a few times from close range and escaped as fast as possible... hiding body = time = increased risk of being caught and leaving forensic info behind?

He was on secondment from GCHQ, to MI6 so they probably put him up in a company apartment.

Anyway back to the story.

Found stabbed, dead and decomposing in a sports bag in the bath...? What's the betting the Tomlinson and Kelly pathologists would come up with (text book) suicide?

Well, they wouldn't want to end up dead and decomposing in a sports bag, would they?

Only suicide if the sports bag wasn't fully zipped up. Oh and, either the chap was a midget or that is one hell of a big sports bag.

Such a strange killing.
You'd think a hitman would either make it look like suicide or just outright shoot them.

Stabbed to death (Decapitated?) then put in a sports bag seems very strange.
Then again, I never would have expected hitmen to poison someone with radiation but it happened.

Maybe the russians just really love to be dramatic about their hits?

It wasn't enought that he was killed. He had to be shown to have been killed. To death. Really really comprehensively.

MI6 & Co? Seems that in spite of reshuffles and a change of address etc things have not changed since Philby, Burgess and Maclean. Brixmis without Oxford and Cambridge did a much better and more reliable job at a fraction of the going MI6 prices back in the 50 to 80s. Maybe MI6 should really be outsourced to the FSB & Co?

Yes he exsanguinated on the bathroom floor after a particularly bad shaving cut.
