Well I for one am glad.

But then I don't think fishing (as in commercial fishing) should be allowed the way it is, with the fish "suffocating". I would prefer them to be killed quickly and humanely, the same standards we impose upon other animals killed.
How do you propose to implement that?

How do you propose we pay the benefits for all the out of work trawlermen this would no doubt create?

Eel be lucky not to be sent to prison for that. Cod have been dangerous too.
He probably hoped they'd skate over it but it as mentioned above it was the wrong plaice to try something fishy.
From what I've heard he haddock coming to him for a whale.

The RSPCA are a charity, end of. They have just as many rights to come Into your house and Interview you without your permission as Oxfam do.. None!

They can however come In your house without your permission If they're accompanied by a police officer with a warrent showing both the coppers and Rspca blokes name.

If the fisherman want to kill fish, then they need to prove they can do it humanely. Not for me to come up with the plan for them to do it.

I'd happily ban halal meat too regardless of the "redundancies" that this would cause.

Shakotan - well, they are animals, not people, so no real requirement for them to kill humanely..

It would create more jobs as they'd need lots of people to kill all those fish humanely. Maybe they could stand around the net and beat it with sticks like a giant piñata.

You're sure that everything you eat is killed humanely now are you?

And with the video evidence he'll flounder in court, there's no basis to carp about it either.

I can't be sure as I don't attend the slaughter of all the meat I eat but I hope so.

and on that basis you'd be happy to impose your ideas on the world, regardless of the consequences to humans of your odd ideas about fish pain?

Odd ideas about fish pain? I think I could find some scientific evidence to back up the fact that fish suffocating is not a quick nor painless death and thus not humane. So yes, I'd be happy to impose upon those I could that fish ought to be killed humanely. And the same goes for Halal meat.

What concerns me is animal welfare and reducing unnecessary suffering. We are supposed to be enlightened creatures.

Certainly not. Such bass behaviour must have been intended to bait the animal rights people. Salmon should have stopped him earlier.

Nonsense, merely anthropomorphising stimulus (or lack of in this case) response. Tomatoes also exhibit signs of stress when picked from the vine - care to elaborate how to kill tomatoes humanely?

I'm not fussed about the humane bks, I'm just shocked that anyone could stumble about blithely spouting this sort of bks without a care in the world for the enlightened creatures who will no longer be able to feed their own families through the implementation of their crackpot ideas.
