Linda Norgrove.....
Discussion
I am being an armchair general here, but even as a total idiot I can see that throwing a grenade into ANY building during a hostage rescue is a monumentally stupid thing to do.
I really cant get my head around it.
I'd love to see the footage they have, just so I could get an idea of what an assault actually looks like.
Still. Grenading a building. Stupid imo.

I don't see why US troops and UK troops can't work together.
I would think that after nearly 10 years in the Middle East, at this level of soldiering, all the Aussies, South Africans, Brits and Yanks et al know each other very well and work together regularly. They also almost certainly have differing practices and beliefs based upon their varied personal and regimental experiences.Tiggsy said:

I side with the opener of this thread. I too when listening to Hague as this story broke thought, oh dear new government, same crap, cover your asses first...
Obviously there must have been intelligence that Norgrove was in danger, either going to be whisked away by the taliban or something similar. We (I assume the Brit Gov.) gave the okay for the Yanks to go in.
Would you?
Well, she ain't in danger anymore!

Please explain, I'm totally lost at that statement.

Not even one that, say, had heavy automatic fire coming from it that was about to obliterate half your troop?I really cant get my head around it.

Does anyone else ever visit the Daily Mail version of news stories just to enjoy the comment section?
It's sadistic, I know. I just can't help it.
Yup, do it every day. Its quite hilarious how mind numbingly stupid some people can be, and there's a certain perverse pleasure in downgrading the comments of numpties. It's sadistic, I know. I just can't help it.
I see that everyone is whining in the press today about this woman's death.
Has anyone mentioned the fact that if she hadn't refused her ex-pat provided security, like she always did, wandering around a war torn Muslim couuntry where, except for Kabul, most women are confined to their compound, thinking she's untouchable, she most likely would never have been kidnapped in the first place.
She only has herself to blame. Someone ought to tell the family, so they don't torture themselves anymore with this issue and let in rest.

A wild stab in the dark but you weren't by any chance in the Irish Rangers many moons ago?Has anyone mentioned the fact that if she hadn't refused her ex-pat provided security, like she always did, wandering around a war torn Muslim couuntry where, except for Kabul, most women are confined to their compound, thinking she's untouchable, she most likely would never have been kidnapped in the first place.

I would have silently nailed the guards at 500 yards with bow and arrow. Then, dressed as a Taliban, walked through the front door taking care of the rest of them with head shots (one each) from my silenced Glock 17. How hard can it be?
One each? Double-tap more like! How many sucessful hostage rescues have ever been carried out by US forces?
?
?
?
?
Just sayin.
