Nice area, prices are reasonable too. My in-laws are between Wellow and Shoscombe and it's a lovely bit of country, with easy access to Bath and Bristol.

Someone tell me the unobvious downside to this place. On the Hill, detached, and under £2m. And marketed by Savills who thus far aren't renowned for their aggressive valuations

In contrast...

"What do you mean it isn't worth £1.5m because it is on a main road, and sold for £950k in 2009. And let's ignore numerous other downside mentioned in planning application, I put a new bathroom in!"

How do you know it's #1 North Common, out of interest? Streetview didn't reach that road when I tried to have a nosey. And whilst I'm usually good at finding houses on googlemaps, I can't pick out which one it is.

Admittedly I also initially struggled, but it has also gone up for rent

Anyone who ever ran a Mk1 Isuzu Trooper knows how handy it is to have a well drained driveway when the engine oil pressure releif valve fails.

ETA, Aside from the appalling landscaping it's alright; decor is not too bad, although I spy a pretty average Bathstore suite.

A mere £6k a month to rent - where do I sign?

I've seen that a lot of late - a house for rent is also for sale. I'd be pretty miffed if I'd signed up to rent that house and then they started sending viewings around. Is it a case of "It's worth £x and I wont sell it for less" denial?

I was thinking that people with a RRS paid for in cash will be safe, but do those people exist?
Yes, I know of a couple (and a LR dealer told me a couple of weeks ago that most new Range Rovers - real or otherwise - weren't bought on finance).

Still, sounds like good sport.
Does your LR dealer drink to much at lunch? wink

So which house is it? Does it literally back on to the main road? I still can't pick it on googlemaps.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, corner of North Common & Queens Road; backing onto the roundabout; hence the lampost visible in the back garden.

I reckon its the one that if you come off the A317, its first on the left. Drive has been done since the google map image.

Ah, sorry the corner plot. The number of elevations/added bits threw me off!!

Handy for renting DVDs; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&a...

ETA. And the winde shop and curry house.

With all that lot, and the odd stray 6 from the cricket ground, I'd doubt the garden could ever be reasonably described as tranquil. Perhaps why so little has been spent on it.

The number of decent stuff out there at the moment seems really few & far between. I viewed a 1000 properties on rightmove and have found one which I am viewing tonight. Optimistically priced at 10K less than it sold for in 2007.

given a sheet showing the tantalising terms on offer, including a rice allowance of £14.28 per month, a laundry allowance of £1.78 per month and an annual salary of £2,036, rising to £2,188 for employees with more than six months' experience.
Possibly more tempting if it was a beer allowance hehe

The death of the propertaasy boom is not all bad news for the Toon.

At least the wave of "froth and bks" development, that threatened to encroach the more interesting and unspoilled parts of the city has been halted, for now.

The Free Trade Inn and the Cumberland remain intact.

Thank the lord I live in Sunderland and not Newcastle, we've got some dumps in this city but our's look like Mayfair compared to some of theirs. smile

That said, Sunderland is only a viable city thanks to Nissan, without that we may as well switch the lights off and move somewhere else, god help us if they go under!
