My only question here is why did they let the bloke go (a fellow who can ID them) then kill the wife?
I doubt they were criminal masterminds!

Not aimed at you J&J, but I really can't believe that some posters on here suspect a conspiracy involving the husband. Absolute tw*ts.

You miss the word "relatively"? Compared to what is currently going on, it was peaceful. Not a utopia but better than the sthole it has since become.
I'm not saying it is good.

But for a stload of people there, including some friends, it is just a different form of st.

But, at least they aren't getting arrested now for being uppity coloureds for wanting to actually work and get an equal education and voting and things like that.

But hey ho, just one of those things. Apparently it was an amazing country so who am I to argue.

Yep. I agree with that. Why is it that people can't accept that bad things sometimes just happen?

Terribly sad situation. Not good at all.

Arrested for not upholding an unjust law, or murdered and raped for being... well, just for being.
Neither is right but I'd rather not take my chances with the latter.

However, apparently it's not only white governments which make mistakes. The speaker in this video makes some rather disturbing statements. How many of them are true? You decide. (Warning - sensitive viewers may be offended)

Agreed. As it stands this is a tragic, tragic state of affairs. A newly married couple on their honeymoon, and one of them is brutally murdered let's just concentrate on that and let that sink in guys. Any speculation can come later. This is so incredibly sad confused

Oh Oh - I see a disagreement brewing at Soovy & Tonker LLC (or whatever it's called). smile

I just thought the original "dropped off" comment from the BBC about the hussband was very oddly worded.

I hope I'm proved wrong, but I'm sure we're not being told everything. Everything just doesn't add up.

Maybe it's the driver, maybe it's the husband...

They were apparently having dinner in Somerset West, and to get back in to Cape Town proper just requires driving down the N2 motorway in to the centre of town. There is no need to deviate, and if you do there are plenty of routes on other fast roads that don't require stopping.

If they were heading in to a township to see the nightlife at 11pm, then that is utterly stupid.
Husband has now given an interview to the Daily Mail.

WTF - giving an interview is not the action I'd be taking if my wife had just been shot after (presumably) being gang raped by half of a township (she was a very pretty girl).

Interview said:
‘Anni grew up in Sweden, and she felt as if the area around this hotel was just like at home: so clean and safe, and maybe a bit sterile. She had never been to Africa before, so she suggested that we should have a look at the “real Africa”.
So they were told where to go and not to go, but decided to ignore that and see "the real Africa". Maybe the wife was insistent on seeing the lovely townships where Naomi Cambell's grandad started his struggle for freedom.

Silly silly girl.

I'm calling this one as not done by long way., one way or another.

It's certainly a tragedy, and on his account caused by being stuipd, starry eyed and naive, but this interview just doesn't smell right to me. A bit too perfect, as were the immaculately dressed "friends of the family" who lined up on the news last night outside their mansion.

Perhaps years as a lawyer have made me too cynical.

Dear Lord I cannot believe you just wrote that Soovy!!

At the moment the circumstances are unclear, I dont believe anyone can draw conclusions of any kind from the interview, and as for the others satorial predilictions, maybe they thought that as they were going to be on TV it might be appropriate to smarten up to show respect to their friends and family FFS!!

Cheers
Probably a fair comment, to be honest.

Just seems an odd thing to give an interview to the Mail the day after, that's all.

I'm not drawing any conclusions.

I'm just saying that giving an interview wouldn't be what I would do.

Poor girl.

Precicely.

Unfortunately this has resulted in South Africa's rapid descent to third world sthole status, in line with the rest of the continent.

I suppose the fact that he was wealthy takes away the notion that he might have murdered her for her money.

Jim just misses people calling him "Masser" of a morning.

I think it's all our fault for not keeping the darkies in their place, what ho!

I went to Jo'burg on business for three days back in the summer. I have never been to Africa before. I was shocked by it to be honest. Bright, upbeat, dynamic, booming, modern, great roads, pretty good driving standards, lovely people, good value, terrific food and wine. Sure there's obviously some problems but frankly I was knocked out by it.

I drove back from Witbank to Sandton in the dark. Took a couple of hours and I had no problems at all. They're a bit hot with the old speed cameras though!

Is there an expected reaction from the husband? I'm not sure what i'd do in the same situation!

Whatever comes out in due course, it's certainly tragic for the girl.
