People like you lost power that's what happened.
You see how that worked out for them, huh? hehe

Seriously one of the top spots in the world to visit or live in, and I speak from experience.
As do the millions of saffers who get the fk out of the racist sthole as soon as they can find work elsewhere.

Plenty of pretty places in the world, just that a lot of them you are less likely to end up with a burning tyre for a necklace.
They can join the other saffers who got out earlier from a different form of racist sthole wink
IIRC, it certainly was far from a sthole then; what changed?.....oh, yea.
In danger of being called PC again (oh, the unrelenting shame), it wasn't a sthole for a percentage of the population, just most of them wink

My only question here is why did they let the bloke go (a fellow who can ID them) then kill the wife?
Are you thinking a setup by him to kill his wife for some reason?

Precicely.

Unfortunately this has resulted in South Africa's rapid descent to third world sthole status, in line with the rest of the continent.
"People like us". hehe Other racists took over but that seems to be OK with TonyToniTone because they are the "correct racists". hehe

Who is he going to ID them to? Corruption reigns and I'll be surprised if the true criminals are brought to justice.
So why kill the woman? OK, I know that logic may not have played a great parts in the robbers thinking, but the murder of a foreign tourist is going to bring a whole heap more attention than a robbery.

And they let the driver go too.

Jim just misses people calling him "Masser" of a morning.

I think it's all our fault for not keeping the darkies in their place, what ho!
Big assumption on your part. Even ironic seeing as my wife is a racial minority. rolleyes

It is a continent where one failre to abide by the basic rules can lead to horrific tragedy.
Nail head.

Usual cushy British rules don't apply.
So, what you are saying is that severe crime is "the rule". I prefer to call that "sthole rules" then.

Could one once say the same for New York?

Not really. New York was a sthole in to the 70s and early 80s until Rudy Gulliani treated ccrime and criminals as they should be treated. Now Times Square is a tourists destination as opposed to a drug and crime den.

It was a beautiful evening and we walked along the beach and ate at a place right on the seafront. We had been planning on just coming back to the city centre and having a drink in the Waterfront area.’
But then they decided to leave the safer tourist areas and have a look at a township in the city.
‘Anni grew up in Sweden, and she felt as if the area around this hotel was just like at home: so clean and safe, and maybe a bit sterile. She had never been to Africa before, so she suggested that we should have a look at the “real Africa”.
‘The stop was on the way back here and was intended so that we could experience a township. We were barely in the Gugulethu township when the attack happened.

Looks an amazing place to visit..

I drove back from Witbank to Sandton in the dark. Took a couple of hours and I had no problems at all. They're a bit hot with the old speed cameras though!
Bet you didn't go anywhere near the central business district or railway station.

I love SA. DOne the Garden Route, Been to Cape Town for Xmas holidays twice in last five years. Never had a problem. One of the most stunning countries on Earth. BUT .. you have to be REALLY careful about where and when you go. The townships are NOT quaint places full of shiny happy people happy to show you their arts and crafts. It's common-bloody-sense you DON'T EVER go into one of the most deprived areas without armed escort (even though they are only a few miles from stunning beaches and palatial mansions). It is, as this poor woman discovered too late, suicide-by-thug.

Correct advice! smile I was very careful to stay on main roads and do as my satnav said plus a dose of common sense.

OTOH, I had been led to believe Jo'burg was a total war zone, and it wasn't. I couldn't believe the prosperity of seemingly millions of ordinary people, seems to be a black middle class boom going on.

Absolutely - there is an amazing black middle (and upper) class boom going on. I've made some great (black) friends while doing business down there.

The rampant positive discrimination isn't having a 100% bad effect - maybe just 90% wink
