Consensus, you say!

Did Copernicus go with the consensus? Did Kepler? Newton? Einstein?

Sir Cristopher Wren didn't rate "consensus" very highly. He considered it the realm of the uninformed idiot. "Nullius in Verba", and all that.

I see you are new around here. Perhaps you've stumbled across something you don't fully appreciate.

Around here we debate. We generally don't toe any party lines. We put in our four-pennorth (or whatever you have over the pond) and then let somebody put the contra-argument.

It can be quite fun when you get the hang of it wink

From a comedian that must be some praise.

Instead of addressing the substance of the Marshall Institute’s work, the UCS is simply inferring motives and attacking sources of support to try to silence any voices of dissent. Unfounded allegations and unjustified attacks are a poor substitute for open and candid debate. This is unfortunate as well as dangerous.

We're used to hypocrisy by now, as well as UCS type strategies - you'll fit in well with the resident faithful.

Also you forgot about this Inconvenient Truth:

Argumentum ad populum is a logical fallacy

Which buries any silly point about consensus.

Are you for real? You're debating the existence of climate change with just about global consensus? Jeez.. I thought that madness was mostly on this side of the pond (US)

Oh good grief, not the UCS ....

Oh well, as one falls by the wayside 'a miracle occurs' and another one pops up.

UKB, if you plan to hang around, and you are very welcome of course, would you mind changing your user name to kerplonk or similar - it might be easier for historians to follow at some future point.

I drive a Camry, the most popular car in America (for good reason).

Past cars include: Scooby as you call it - chipped Impreza & 330 coupe.

I rode bikes for 12 years, final bike was a ZX12R - absolute beast. Right now getting into cart racing.

It is a pertinent question.

"PistonHeads.com" is clearly car related. Why join, then add your first three contributions to a thread about a little known environmentalist in a sub-forum that is effectively nothing to do with cars scratchchin

UKB, old chap...

You've posted on two threads so far...

What brought you to a performance car site...?

You don't think my owning a chipped Impreza or 330 sports coupe indicates an interest in performance cars? I just don't equate that interest with a belief in a global conspiracy about fake science, or denials of a consensus of 98% of the world climate scientists.

I just hope we get performance cars in the future that have a less damaging effect on us.

Anyhow - performance cars are ******* fun, no doubt about that tongue out

What, the vast majority of scientists whose entire livelihoods are supported by the premise that anthopological global warming is fact, and who have invested so much of their energy and time into projects which are dependent on the premise that anthopological global warming is fact..... believe that anthopological global warming is fact?

I'm bowled over.

Now if only we had a consensus of 98% of world mimes, the sceptics could use 'appeal to authority' too.

I try not to look too much at these particular posts anymore, I find them depressing. To me, it is obvious that they are, at the very least, not truthful, and at worst, simply lying to push their own particular agenda.
Now, after reading so many of these silly posts, the same pattern emerges, time after time – so much so that I cannot believe a word they type. I find them very creepy, to say the least.

Could Monbiot be grooming them in a Welsh cave, and launching them upon us like a barrage of dud motar bombs, while he feverishly pens another chapter in a secret tome of doom, before the ice age sets in and he can't flog it...?

UKB: as you are from the United States, you will no doubt appreciate the wit and wisdom of one of America's greatest stand-up entertainers George Carlin (RIP) on the hot (ho ho) topic of Anthropomorphic Global Warming.

No one has said it better (IMHO).

(PS) George - if you're still lurking, I recommend you take a look as well.
