Definitely. While concensus is irrelevant to the veracity of scientific enquiry (it only takes one scientist to be correct, large numbers of misguided individuals merely ups the embarrassment factor) it's good for humour, good for pointing out logical fallacies, and good for showing up as total bks. We get the Oreskes mistake and the Schulte follow-up (not the medical pub one either) so here's something new for a change. Oooh something new ... ish, I think, in terms of postings on PH I don't remember seeing Zimmerman even though it's not a contemporary matter as of 2011:

Zimmerman Identifies only 75 Climatologists from 20,000 world-wide

Kendall Zimmerman [2008] sought to vindicate Oreskes by surveying 10,257 American Earth scientists using a database built from Keane and Martinez [2007]. However, only 30.7 per cent of scientists replied. Zimmerman conceded only five per cent of respondents were climate scientists. In it’s conclusion the study identified a mere 75 climatologists who agreed human emissions were a ‘significant’ contribution to 20th century global warming out of the 10,000 plus earth scientists first approached. In fact, in none of Zimmerman’s questions was the issue of ‘catastrophic’ warming even raised.

Add that to the previous posts I made on this consensus lark where the number of respondents in the 97% or 98% myth was also less than 100.

I thought for a moment there TB you were referring to Robert Zimmerman and his popular 1960s paper that concluded that the Answer is Blowing in the Wind, wind being rather topical at the moment on a number of fronts (as it were - more likely backs really.)

It might be interesting if somebody posted something over there that was reasonably balanced, but just managed to disagree with His Georgeness, just to see if it was deleted by their mods.

Then made the same post over here, just to let us all know the level of censorship that is being applied.
