In Western Europe, the only political entity, which seems not to have abandoned the global warming cause, is the European Union (EU). Theyre currently heading into a dispute with the rest of the world, because they want to unilaterally impose a carbon tax on flights into the EU. A few little countries like America and China are not happy with that idea and if the EU insist on it, theyll just impose retaliatory taxes on imported EU goods, which means welcome to a trade war. Basically, the faceless bureaucrats of the EU are about to be taught a humiliating lesson, which cant be a bad thing. When it comes to the EU and its particular brand of insular stupidity, you have to admit that Forrest Gumps Momma was right stupid is as stupid does.
Momma Gump for MEP.

He told The Gazette: The work is part of a 33m Government funded project to replace street lamps and signs throughout Blackpool

By improving street lighting and de-illuminating signs like this one, in line with national guidance, we are able to make significant savings on energy costs.

Far from being a waste of money, the new lighting arrangements will, at present energy prices, save the council some 20,000 during the next 25 years.
Well woop-de-fking do!

Heads up everyone but the collapse of civilization is predicted possibly as soon as this summer due to methane being released in the arctic.

money grabbing eco nutters said:
We declare there now exists an extremely high international security risk* from abrupt and runaway global warming being triggered by the end-summer collapse of Arctic sea ice towards a fraction of the current record and release of huge quantities of methane gas from the seabed. Such global warming would lead at first to worldwide crop failures but ultimately and inexorably to the collapse of civilization as we know it. This colossal threat demands an immediate emergency scale response to cool the Arctic and save the sea ice. The latest available data indicates that a sea ice collapse is more than likely by 2015 and even possible this summer (2012). Thus some measures to counter the threat have to be ready within a few months.

Don't worry there is a solution which will of course cost millions and our MP's have been made aware so expect a new tax any time soon. It involves building about 100 giant towers in the Faroe Islands which will pump out a fine mist of sea spray which will cool the arctic and stop the ice from melting.

My favourite line from the article has to be

eco nutter plan said:
In summer, seawater would be pumped up to the top using some kind of renewable energy, and out through the nozzles that are now being developed at Edinburgh University, which achieve incredibly fine droplet size.
Also they've not actually costed this plan out but they think it will be around 20 million or so.

So basically they don't know how to make this thing work and have no idea how much it will cost but they do get to present this halfbaked plan to our gullible MP's and the BBC reports it with a completely straight face.

Well woop-de-fking do!
So let me just make sure I am understanding this correct;

They are spending 33million in order to save the council less than 1000 a year for the next 25 years?

yes

assuming no additional maintenance cost each year.

ANY maintenance would easily amount to 1000 (give the special way councils spend cash) and could therefore be 33million for sweet FA.

Where's Jean Luc Picard when you need him!

I am still amazed that in this day and age since the 'economic crisis', such obvious waste of the public purse is left to go on unchecked! What the F are people like Osborne actually doing if such large irregularities are allowed to continue?!

Actually.......I'm not amazed at all. This is to be expected by these career Politicians nowadays. Blind leading the blind.
