Word has arrived that R4 was apparently quite naughty this morning - I didn't hear it, how about PHers?

Allegedly on R4 "Thought For The Day" John Bell, Iona Community, compared climate sceptics with paedophiles and warmongers and claimed that all sceptics were men.

Jo Nova should be concerned on top of being, like the rest of us presumably, outraged at this vile bile if it was actually aired. Iplayer?
Yes, I heard that. I'm fairly sure that I posted a few months ago about the same clown being allowed to air his prejudices in the same slot and wondered why someone so insignificant, with no public mandate was allowed such a prime spot. He'll probably become a regular; maverick, left of left, god a'fearing nutjob. Just right for the role...

Ah ha! A good find. Yep, explains it all. Clearly someone with views we should all take serioulsy, not.

I expect he'll be seen jumping in front of an F1 car, horse or rowing boat some time too. Hopefully getting reunited with his god post-haste in the process. bd BBC giving tts like this a public platform, no wonder they get so much flak.

As we know, propaganda works like that...children are more emotive messengers and propaganda aims to appeal to the emotions more so than the intellect. She's basically a victim, it would be unkind to describe her as a useful idiot, though it's useful to the EU to have people tell it what it wants to hear, which is why it funds pressure groups to do the same thing.

It isn't working all over the EU however - the European Parliament has cancelled its Rio+20 participation as developing nations continue to push back the green agenda.

Back in DaftAsABrushLand...

The Global Warming Policy Foundation warns that the government's overarching aim to reduce the economic burden on British families and UK businesses is threatened by the significant costs of its planned electricity market proposals. At the heart of the Queen’s Speech was a government promise to introduce policies that aim to help families and businesses. But this is seriously undermined by its commitment to introduce an Energy Bill that will significantly increase the cost of electricity. "These green energy measures will be both economically damaging and very unpopular when their cost becomes apparent in rising energy bills," said Dr Benny Peiser, the director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.

Says a lot about the teacher though doesn't it? He gave her a video, probably garland or similar, but whatever it was it was enough to cause alarm rather than give her 2 sides of the story, especially the economic one too.
I agree, she is a victim.

Germany Faces Green Energy Crisis: Network Agency Calls For Suspension Of Emission Laws For Old Coal Plants

Old coal power plants need to stay in operation or Germany’s power grid faces collapse. That is the warning of Germany’s national grid agency. Because the danger of blackouts is growing as a result of the shut-down of six nuclear power plants last year, the Federal Network Agency is proposing to suspend legal emission limits for plants. Old power stations, which are due to be shut down due to their high environmental impact, should continue to operate. "Closures of more conventional power plants are currently not feasible in Germany," it says literally in the grid agency’s report: "Given the present and future tense situation, it is necessary to suspend closures previously arising due to the emissions reduction law." Last winter, on several occasions, Germany only just escaped large-scale power outages. Next winter the risk of large blackouts is even greater. The culprit for the looming crisis is the single most important instrument of German energy policy: the "Renewable Energy Law." The economic cost of a wide-scale blackout is measured in billions of Euros per day. The most important test of energy policy is now the stability of power – so far only the cost of the green energy transition has been focused upon. Because the federal government does not have the guts to start an overdue and fundamental debate about the usefulness of a 12-year-old, now totally outdated, "launch aid" called EEG, it now threatens to oversteer, with the green energy transition ending up in a crash. Fasten your seat belts.

Nonsense! Germany is festooned with windmill farms, I've seen em, they'll be fine.

On a serious note, if you think we have it bad try driving anywhere near Leipzig, the place is buried with the things

Just in on the bush telegraph - electric car burns down house say officials, and it wasn't plugged in at the time. A bit of unwelcome local warming for sure.

“I've worked homicide scenes with less secrecy,” Baker added. “There have to be about 15 engineers down here working on this one.”

Bad weekend for leccy cars then! smile It is claimed KERS (introduced partly as a sop to anti-F1 greenies) was to blame for this little lot too.

Bursting into flames isn't exactly unheard of in fossil fuelled cars.

Just people get more excited about electric cars catching fire as it somehow proves something

There was no excitment, just reporting coverage of an incident.

Same goes for Bruno Senna's car I would think, although in that case there were several injuries unfortunately.

The comment about how many engineers were in attendance following the demise of a pointless gesture aka an electric car wink does however reveal a degree of sensitivity on the part of somebody.

Not sure how coverage of a vehicle fire fits in this particular thread then, if not to make some point about electric cars.
Perhaps the incident should have its own thread, as Fisker's reaction is interesting, if only from a new company's PR failure angle

Given the subsidies that Electric cars enjoy and the push to "decarbonise" road transport any stories showing the inherent dangers of pushing a nascent technology ahead of proven ones is of political interest.
As there is no need to "decarbonise" transport these external combustion engines are an expensive folly.

Pushing ahead? Sounds like they are only just catching up with cars like the Ferrari 458. I do not see how the story of one car fire is relevant to climate change.

but it is very relevent to the Politics of climate change in an ironic way.

How? One could just as easily say 'Look how dangerous petrol cars are - Best we develop alternatives ASAP'

Spot the difference -

Out of curiosity, how would you put out an electric car that's on fire? Would water be okay or would there be a risk of electrocution?

If there is any Magnesium involved, you stand back let it burn.
