As an aside, although slightly more PH related: Now that it's kicking off in Tripoli, spare a thought for PH's very own 'Gaffer' who is trapped there at this very moment. Not great, really. frown
I wish him well. Have you heard from him? Is he truly trapped or can he slip out?

Having met Claire, I can assure you she is no guy. smile

But yes, a lot of us are very worried about her and are following her reports on Facebook (when she can get connection) with alarm and bitten nails.

Latest update as of 5 mins ago : She's sat on the floor in her apartment away from the windows as military planes and helicopters fly over with gunfire outside in the street. frown

Libyan Airforce defectors land on Malta? posted on the Times of Malta website.

Wow, it's all going down, the whole shonky edifice that is the middle east is wobbling on a shoogly peg. Just wow. I'm only sorry I won't be able to tell my grandkids I was somewhere more exciting(at home polishing my arrse) when it happened.

Where next; Iran? Saudi? UAE? Syria?

Are you insane? You'd trade being safe and sound for being in fear of your life in the thick of it?

That would be great, sneaking off with the oil rights. Aren't there other countries that are surely wanting to do the same?

Unconfirmed reports of an air strike on protesters by the libyan air force.
Also the Libyan ambassador in London has resigned from his position and the whole embassy is pro-protesters now.

Hmm, wonder what the Italian Air Force is up to at the moment. I'm sure they wouldn't mind putting some holes in a few runways.

I wonder if NATO could instigate an urgent "no fly" zone seeing this terrorist is using the same tactics Saddam used on his people.

Thats kinda what I wonder. And there must be plenty of air forces itching to go and do something interesting like bounce the Libyan Airforce into the Med.

And remember, if they wipe out the Libyan Airforce, the new Libyan Government gets to buy lovely new Eurofighters or F16s with all that oil money. Triples all round.

Judging by the way events are unfolding, I think Gaddafi is ready to wipe out two third of his population before he gives up his throne, sadly.

Can we send Mandelson and Blair in to sort things out? I'd be willing to chip in for their flight. By all accounts they have a good rapport with the Gaddafis.

You don't need anything more sophisticated against unarmed civilians. In fact a Hawk Jet Trainer with rocket pods and a gun pod do the trick too. Allegedly.

Confusing reports.William Hague stating he had info Gaddafi is on his way to Venezuela, and Chafez(spl?) denying that's the case.

Good job Gaddafi never got his hands on that DeLorean...

And a nod to Gaffer/Claire, who answered a couple of queries for me about Libya (although her views may have changed recently)

I'm waiting to see mobile phone shots of a VW minibus charging down the streets of Tripoli with a gunman poking up through the sunroof.
