If ever there was a wake up call to stay the fk out of ME internal affairs its what has just happened in Libya, send meds and humanitarian aid by all means, other than that leave them all to it.
That's too boring and does not help with arms sales, testing arms in a real situation. If the Muslims got together and decided on just one version of fairy story religion, life would be better for humanity as a whole.

Too true, then it would be simple

Just on CNN, Turkey is now shelling Syria after mortar shells land inside Turkey.

That's NATO member Turkey? "An attack on one is an attack on all." Turkey?

When is israel joining in?
This can't be good for anyone, beginning of the end.

I can't see Israel doing anything in this situation. The Arab nations seem to be doing a good job of tearing themselves apart without Israel's help.

That's the worry, it won't be long before one of them comes across an Israeli made film on YouTube before it all goes pear shaped.

I don't doubt his tenacity or aggressiveness for a moment, but I honestly doubt he would sign his own death warrant.

Defections in the army are increasing exponentially from what I've read, would only take one artillery unit to turn the gun around and tip the balance by bringing Turkey into it.

The Syrian government has nothing to gain from this shelling, no military objective met, instead civilians killed and a neighbouring government, that was once friendly with the Syrians but now losing patience, further antagonised. This is either a mistake or a cynical ploy by the rebels or an external agency.

I see the indiscriminate car bombs are in full use now anyway.

This is what we all wanted right? Those at the start of the thread claiming the Arab Spring had long been hijacked by Islamic Extremists were just sympathisers of Dictatorship surely? This is why we gave millions in support right? Free Syria, yay for democracy.

After Iraq and Afghanistan we should have never let our governments meddle in foreign affairs without absolute scrutiny.

Then Libya happened. Sure, their country is now without any real infrastructure, torn by sectarian conflict and partly run by Islamic extremists and one of the most prosperous nations in the region has been bombed back to last century. But we got Gaddafi! Democracy, remember?

And Syria, poor Syria. Those poor innocent men flying Al Qaeda flags and posting videos of themselves with pigs blood all over their face, executing police men in broad daylight, kidnapping and torturing public workers and journalists. Well we just had to help them be free from a secular Syria.

First we denied it, then we said we would give them first aid, but then we were giving them radios and satellite imagery, then it was full logistical support and now the evidence for weapons paid for by the Americans are flooding across the border into the hands of extremists (the BBC doesn't even hide that fact any more and calls them their real names).

And now the protests in Iran have started, just in time. The economic sanctions placed on them in response to a nuclear program that there is no evidence for, is starting to finally ruin their economy and the livelihoods of millions of innocent people.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and the rest of the Sunni Dictatorships continue the systematic torture and executions of thousands as they always have done and the world gives them a reassuring smile and a wink and turns their eyes away. They play by the rules you see, they can be bought off. Those that can't, those that dare challenge Western imperialism will learn the hard way.

Free Syria, three cheers for democracy and the Nobel peace prize laureate led US.

I don't normally do conspiracy theories, but I find it very odd that there are TV crews in the correct, isolated Turkish village at the exact time the shells fall.

I assumed that they were Turkish film crews at or near the border. Didn't some stray shells come over in that area earlier in the conflict?
