This is probably the first time in 50 years the IAF do not have carte blanche to bomb any of their northern neighbours. I also doubt the Syria army or airforce is now on the list of targets. Israel does not want to get entangled with Russia in a shooting match over Syria.
...that is unless it's caught delivering Iranian arms to Southern Lebanon.

I think you have a tendency to exaggerate.

Which part is exaggerated? Maybe the 'constantly' should be 'regularly'.

Iraq invaded Iran, and then Kuwait.
Saudi sponsors Al Qaeda, Taliban, Daesh, Al-Nusra ..
Israel is bombing Gaza frequently.

Syrian air force / military not Hezbollah. The Israeli air force has a painfully earned respect for Russian manufactured air defence capabilities and the SU30 is not an ageing MIG-27 or 21.

I notice the coverage of the Aleppo fighting has gone very quiet. I wonder why?

Could it be that the Syrian government forces are making ground, even with supply of TOW missiles and materiel to the moderately Islamic funda-mentalist fighters. I refuse to believe that, as it would imply a bias in the media coverage and that is just not possible, as the mass media would never bias reports so blatantly. rolleyes

The war with Eurasia, Oceania, Eastasia must go on...

You are kidding ? You denigrate my source, but provide a link to a minor meeting in the UK, chaired by the worryingly rotund "white people love to divide and conquer" non racist Diane Abottamus, and she would not let Syrians speak. Where was Mr Corbyn to provide sagely advice? A Tunbridge wells bridge club meeting has more relevance.

The panel contained such world renowned Syrian experts as Caroline Lucas ! I wonder if she is worried about the ISIS C02 footprint or are they recycling the Sarin gas containers. Was the single and only "expert" from the "Syrian Observatory of Human Rights" there or did he have to take out the bins on that day ?

And ? Shall I start digging up little nuggets of inanity from the daily telegraph, Guardian, Independent, WSJ or your preferred reading the socialist workers party newsletter. Deal with the substance of the article and the attribution to it and try and do better than the Diane Abott moron show as evidence of some atrocity in Syria. The only true atrocity here is being subject to the wisdom and mendacity of Diane Abottamus.

I'm sure that there are lots of Syrians who would like to be rid of Assad, and that they are disproportionately represented among the Syrian diaspora, but they alone cannot explain the transition of Assad from mild-mannered eye-surgeon into wannabe Pol Pot in the eyes of our media and politicians - what does? Arab-Spring hysteria?

A very good question with a variety of possible answers, the much talked about pipeline through Syria, water wars, middle eastern power struggle between Iran and Saudi (Sunni v Shia), Turkish power expansion, Israel wanting a weakened Hezbollah and Iran, arab spring opportunism like Libya, US expansionism in the Middle East. They may all have a part to play.

Definition of any excuse to justify sticking SAM sites all over the shop to deter the west wanting to fly over Russian held areas.

The missile systems were probably coming anyway, this is a perfect opportunity to announce their 'legitimate' deployment.

I didn't know there were any Russian held areas.

Like there's not Iranian or Hezbollah held areas. Regime held area's yes, and other than the southern part of Aleppo they are shrinking by the day even since the Russian AF has come on the scene.

However, I think you and Quantum are probably correct re SAM's.

What will happen if an ISIS exploding car or FSA TOW hits a SAM god only know because a SAM is not much good against either.

I think this is but one reason why with all the bombs the Russians & SAAF have dropped in the past month or so the regime has made little if any headway as far as reclaiming lost land is concerned.

Who was it said you cannot win a war from the air?

Morek was finally lost by the regime last night with 50+ SAA & Iranian soldiers killed.

I'm sure the airforce will wipe whats left of the town off the map by now.

What would happen if a "moderate Islamic fund-a-mentalist" car bomb maker accidentally blew up while prepping his delivery system, a not unknown occurrence. Taking with the 50 tons of explosive and missiles supplied by the US. God only knows.

A very bias view above on the Russian, Hezbollah and Syria army lack of success, as these articles show.

The supply of selected moderately Islamic fund-a-mentalist groups with MANPAD missiles, not just TOW missiles, ammunition, arms and training. What could possibly go wrong? eek

The U.S. and its regional allies agreed to increase shipments of weapons and other supplies to help moderate Syrian rebels hold their ground and challenge the intervention of Russia and Iran on behalf of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, U.S. officials and their counterparts in the region said.

The deliveries from the Central Intelligence Agency, Saudi Arabia and other allied spy services deepen the fight between the forces battling in Syria, despite President Barack Obama’s public pledge to not let the conflict become a U.S.-Russia proxy war.

Saudi officials not only pushed for the White House to keep the arms pipeline open, but also warned the administration against backing away from a longstanding demand that Mr. Assad must leave office.

In the past month of intensifying Russian airstrikes, the CIA and its partners have increased the flow of military supplies to rebels in northern Syria, including of U.S.-made TOW antitank missiles, these officials said. Those supplies will continue to increase in coming weeks, replenishing stocks depleted by the regime’s expanded military offensive.

An Obama administration official said the military pressure is needed to push Mr. Assad from power.

“Assad is not going to feel any pressure to make concessions if there is no viable opposition that has the capacity, through the support of its partners, to put pressure on his regime,” the official said.

In addition to the arms the U.S. has agreed to provide, Saudi and Turkish officials have renewed talks with their American counterparts about allowing limited supplies of shoulder-fire man-portable air-defense systems, or Manpads, to select rebels. Those weapons could help target regime aircraft, in particular those responsible for dropping barrel bombs, and could also help keep Russian air power at bay, the officials said.

Mr. Obama has long rebuffed such proposals, citing the risk to civilian aircraft and fears they could end up in the hands of terrorists. To reduce those dangers, U.S. allies have proposed retrofitting the equipment to add so-called kill switches and specialized software that would prevent the operator from using the weapon outside a designated area, said officials in the region briefed on the option.

U.S. intelligence agencies are concerned that a few older Manpads may already have been smuggled into Syria through supply channels the CIA doesn’t control.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-allies-to-boost-ai...

It’s apparently not enough that the US is supplying anti-tank missiles to rebels shooting at the very same Iran-backed militias that the US implicitly supports across the border in Iraq now, the CIA and Saudi Arabia will give these rebels the firepower to shoot down planes, meaning that in the “best” case scenario they’ll be firing at Russian fighter jets, and in the worst case scenario these weapons will end up in the “wrong moderately Islamic fund-a-mental” hands and be used to down commercial flights.

Putting this all together, it now appears possible that the US is;

i) Sending anti-tank weapons to rebels who are shooting at Iranian soldiers.
ii) Embedding ground troops near Latakia which means they'll almost certainly be engaging Hezbollah directly.
iii) Passing weapons capable of downing a commercial airliner to "select" militants, days after a Russian passenger jet exploded in the skies above the Sinai Peninsula.

This is all in conjunction with the Saudis and Erodgan, who just rigged an election in Turkey on the way to rewriting his country's constitution.

You cannot accuse it of being simple, just the politicians perhaps.

Turning that on it's head.

This could and did go wrong.

Second huge "friendly fire" casualties today in Reef #Idlib. #Russia/n AF hit a hill that was part of the bank of objectives the day before.

16 Hezbollah killed on top of a hill that was under rebels control the day before. Lack of coordination. st happen.

Now who was it that said there could be a problem here in the coordination department what with Farsi, Arabic, Russian + some Urdi (Pakistan Shia) and Pashtun (Afghan Shia) all talking at once.

Oh yes, it was I.

Phil

Quantum, Re Manpads, even the SAA heli's have leant to fly above the height capabilities of these instruments of destruction. Only opportunity is on take-off, landing or parked up. They're really not cut out for the job unless the pilot's gone AWOL with too much Smirnoff.
