Didn't you know? It was a free and fair election. It is normal in democracies for the winner to gain 88.7% of the votes cast.

If you had a shred of moral ground to stand on, someone might care.

Moral (high) ground is in such short supply all round as to be worthless as a comparator.

Some of you may not know how the Syrian conflict started.

Here's the story from one of the high school kids in Deraa, Syria interviewed by CBS TV in Amman, Jordan a year after the events that formed the beginning of the uprising in the country.

No, it was climate change that caused the civil war. Charlotte Church said so. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/10/02/questio...

I have absolutely no idea what the end game is now.

I get the impression that this Saudi Alliance is a way of Saudi Arabia expanding it's influence, or at least countering what it sees as Iran's growing influence in Iraq and Syria.

We have links between ISIS and backing from the UK, USA, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and even Assad.

I'm not sure if I should be wearing a tin foil hat for thinking that ISIS have been created to justify a land/oil grab, originally from the US/EU/Turkey/Saudi side but with a reaction from Russia/Iran for their own interests.

And with Kerry coming back from Russia with a smile on his face it appears that the deal has been struck between the sides and a line has been drawn in the sand. We'll cheer when all sides move in to wipe out all the rebels next year.

Oil will be cheap but at what cost to the Syrian people, to the Yazidis, to the Kurds and to anyone on the end of ISIS' wrath. Part of me even feels sorry for anyone fighting Assad and their impending doom (if what I suspect is correct).

Meanwhile we still keep getting horrendous stories coming out of the region;

http://ahtribune.com/human-rights/238-israeli-orga...
http://en.abna24.com/service/middle-east-west-asia...

I'd like to feel that I'm well educated on the region having spent time in Israel, Lebanon and a few other places in the ME but when people ask me what's going on I just don't have a clue where this is all heading.

I'm sure its just a coincidence that for the last few years Dick Cheney has been busy with his large oil discovery in the Golan.

US meddling in the ME in the name of securing petrochemical resources has a long history, and the neocon push during their "window of opportunity" over the last decade and a half has ratched the death and destruction up to 11. It is sickening.
