BBC reporting that a Turkish fighter jet forced a Syrian passenger jet travelling from Moscow to Damascus to land overnight. They were concerned about arms smuggling through their air space. The Syrians have accused Turkey of piracy. The jet was allowed on its way after being searched.
I wonder what the Russians make of it?

I wonder what the Turks make of the Saudi arms being smuggled via Turkey

Whatever else is happening (and probably the same stuff on both sides) this made me laugh a little, if you can take anything in all this as being funny.

Russians unhappy as it put some Russian passengers in danger. If there was arms on that plane then what do they suppose they are going to do, be completely safe and not used?

Mermaid,
"Syria/Lebanon Shia supported"
Where specifically did you read that or are you taking it out of context?
You know only too well that Lebanon is not all black and white and hasn't been since before 'their' war between Syria (who occupied Lebanon) and Israel using Lebanon as a football pitch while protecting the Christians.
Please don't leave Hezbollah out of the equation!

Mermaid,
No, Alawite, an offshoot of Shi'ism who make-up a small percentage of the current population of Syria.

During the Iran Iraq war assad's father sided with Iran and this relationship has been nurchered ever since with Iran using Syria to supply their armed groups in both Lebanon (Hezbelloah) and Hamas (Gaza, Palestine).
Wissam al-Hassan who was killed in yesterdays bomb in Beirut was a Muslim in a predominantly Christian area of the city.
He was in charge of the investigation of the former Prime Minister Rafiq Harriri and had implicated both Syria and Hezbollah in this killing.
It is understood that he was on his way to a meeting of other leaders and representatives of other groups prior to releasing further evidence into the meadia of Sysria's involvement in the killing of Harriri.
I was at my local coffee shop last night with both Lebanese Christian and Lebanese Shia (Hezbollah supporters) all have completely opposing views.
Lebanon always has been and probably always will be a mess.
One thing the Palestinian refugees in both Syria and Lebanon now realise, after over 40 years of being duped is that both the assad regime and their Lebanese based Shia group Hezbelloah as well as indirectly Iran have absolutely no interest in their welfare or their fight with the state of Israel and that they have just been used as pawns in a far bigger game.
Plenty of YT video's showing that they have now taken up arms in Latakia, Syria and are fighting both alongside and separately for the overthrow of the assad regime.
Even the Palestinians have finally woken up.
Hamas, in Gaza are doing their best to stay out of the conflict even though they have been sponsored till now by assad.
It is all looking grim for assad.
Asma still has her British passport so expect to see her anytime soon in Acton's Asda store.

France formally backs Syrian rebels.. does anyone care what the French think?
France announced Tuesday that it was recognizing the newly formed Syrian rebel coalition and would consider arming the group, seeking to inject momentum into a broad Western and Arab effort to build a viable and effective opposition that would hasten the end of a stalemated civil war that has destabilized the Middle East.

Didn't the French do an excellent job ensuring a smooth transition of power and a stable country with Vietnam....France announced Tuesday that it was recognizing the newly formed Syrian rebel coalition and would consider arming the group, seeking to inject momentum into a broad Western and Arab effort to build a viable and effective opposition that would hasten the end of a stalemated civil war that has destabilized the Middle East.

(A cheap and probably inaccurate shot, and we're no better. But still worth it I think.)

It ensures the French move to the top of the queue for the rebuilding contracts.
And all the future contractors will be kidnapped by muslim extremists who will control large parts of the country (and probably killed by the weapons the French supplied)Countries that help reshape the ruling government ought to excuse themselves from any rebuilding spoils.

I can see their point. Libyans are much better off now that Gaddhafi is gone.France announced Tuesday that it was recognizing the newly formed Syrian rebel coalition and would consider arming the group, seeking to inject momentum into a broad Western and Arab effort to build a viable and effective opposition that would hasten the end of a stalemated civil war that has destabilized the Middle East.
