It would be funny if the police and gov were not there on the day and when the protesters turn up there was nobody there to listen.

Two types of student go on protests - the militant NUS members who'll do anything their communist leaders ask (most NUS members are only members for the cheap beer) and those wanting an excuse for a day out.
A student can't actually join the NUS as an individual. College unions vote to affiliate themselves with the NUS. So a student is automatically a member of the NUS if their student union has voted to affiliate themselves even if they don't want to be. Several universities aren't affiliated; St Andrews aren't for example.
You know what I mean though. How many members of their student union actually care about the politcal side of it? I certainly didn't; I just wanted the SU card that got me discounts around town and entry to college bars. That it had the NUS symbol on it as well as the university name made no difference to me.

You think people listen to protests (excluding those were the protesters are armed)?

It helps to have a well-defined vision about what change they want though. I'm sure you'll see a wide variety of slogans in this protest, probably some contradicting others. There is no common banner for them to get behind.

Quite concerned about this. My girlfriend, sister, 74 year old mother and 10 year old niece are spending the day in London on Saturday. It's been booked for months, they are seeing a show and the sights. Will the nutters all be on the Embankment and Parliement square again?

You can opt out of the NHS as an individual. Or at least you could back in the day, because I did.

Glad I noticed this,

Last time they had their little Saturday "student" march I got stuck right in front of the march in my Lamborghini, don't want to do that again

I'd expect them to be on Oxford Street as well.
They intensely dislike Topshop, amongst others, so Oxford Circus may get a visit.

Isn't that the essence of demonstrating though? Chant the same thing over and over.

Go to a demo/riot, shout your slogan once and once only, then go home. wink

Ah yes I'd forgotten that, I was hoping they would stay out of the West End, the fambleh will just have to keep their eyes open.

Oooooooh a Facebook protest! Let's see how many profile pics we can get fellow communist protestors hehe

This is nothing more than socialists continuing to moan about the fact that Labour were voted out last year, if Labour were doing the same thing as the current government there'd be nothing louder than a fart coming from these people protesting.

I found Milliband's post budget reponse reflected the wider feeling among socialists quite well. It had lots of shouting and red facedness but no actual, real content at all. He doesn't like the opposition, but he can't really say what should be done better so he just ranted a bit.

To be fair though, if I burned someone's house down and then turned up a week later to oppose the way they were rebuilding it I'd be a bit stuck for what to say as well.
