I received a brochure highlighting all the great new benefits the card now comes with.
Then I spotted the smallish print whereby Amex will increase the annual fee to £450 in return...
So what do we get for our extra £150? Aside from a few more airport lounges, I can't really understand what other benefits they are adding...

I would definitely not get a Platinum - get the Platinum Cashback card instead!
£25 a year fee - 5% cashback for first 3 months then 1.25% after.
The Platinum card is a total rip off.

What does the Centurion get you? I guess you have to spend an obscene amount for the centurion card.
gets you loads of perks, travel stuff, tickets etc.. my boss has one and loves it. I have the gold, if you chuck enough spend through it it pays for the fee straight off.

I used to have platinum, then gold. They are ok but I am loving my Centurion
I was thinking of Centurion. What does it cost & what do you get please?my initial thought was that the £450 was too much
but, having considered it carefully I am not sure
the insurance part is good and, having spoken to people that have had cause to use it several times in some pretty unpleasant circumstances, they were all well looked after and think I am daft to even consider ditching the card
I am hovering just now, but will probably renew when it comes due unless I find an alternative insurance service at a much better price

it's 1800 and you have to be "asked"
Our Amex travel advisor mentioned it and said he could organise an invitation. I bauled at the £1800 but wonder what goodies you get for the extra £1350 (difference between Centurion and Platinum cost)?many of the benefits are the same as platinum..
I don't travel enough for platinum so i just have a gold...

If you want one, you simply call Amex (you need to be a customer for 12 months) and they then write to you, inviting you to apply. Crazyness. I understand that Amex did a deal a few years ago with a couple of banks to change the colour of their cards, because many of the CC holders failed to see the value anymore now everyone had cards that looked the same....

The problem with the insurance is that you have to use Amex to be covered, and if you don't use Amex you need evidence that the supplier doesn't take Amex.but, having considered it carefully I am not sure

So, recently I looked at purchasing a holiday which priced out at £6k. They took Amex but charged a fee of 4% for doing so and no fee for paying by debit card.
So to be insured for 1 trip by Amex would cost me £240. (well £210 if you deduct the value of the MR points)
Is that worth it?
