Thanks for your help I have now amended the form, hopefully I have done it right and will soon receive a cheque for £1900ish. If I do receive something I will sort you out a crate of beer/a bottle of something or a donation to a charity of your choice.
How about all 3? One for each year you can claim a rebate.

I will PM you.

Errr...no!

He has not been reimbursed 3k against his claim but assessed via a P11d on £3k for Fuel supplied, so he can claim his full mileage rate.

Depends if he's already paid the tax on the £3k, surely? If not then that will be due, which will offset the claim. But if it's the same most years and he has a ~700 tax code or similar then it would obviously be mostly refund.

I think I will just be claiming for 2012/2013 as that is the only year I have P11D data for. My tax code is currently 539L and has been around that for the last couple of years and my fuel card is the only benefit I have. I am hoping it will get better this year as the accounts department are taking into account business miles so I have nothing extra to pay.

Perhaps you should ask your HR dept if there were any - if your tax code was below the regular personal allowance then it implies you did have taxable benefits.

Thought I would just update this as I have had a letter from HMRC today. I managed to find all the details for three years worth of claims and posted them off about 8 weeks ago. It seems I miss understood the limits for when self assessment comes into force, I assume it would be based on what I would get back but it is on the total amount I am claiming tax relief on. So I now have to do a SA for each year.

Having been on hold for 45 mins to HMRC the person who answered wasn't able to give me much help on what to do from here. Apparently the notes on my account don't make much sense and I may not be able to do SA for the earlier years. They have scheduled someone to call me towards the end of next week.

Is it possible to do SA for previous years? I am hoping my company have finally sorted out the process of the fuel card and BIK, is it possible to go back to PAYE again?

Again!!!

I will PM you but generally you can make claims for 4 years so so long as you can get your hands on all the info needed then you should get a result.

Lol, yes again. This is money that I thought had already gone so don't want to expend too much effort to get it back.
