Ive just got a isa with my own bank, its 3% interest p.a.

I put money in 5 days ago and on the 1st of this month i got paid 50pence interest, if the interest is paid monthly then i dont think ive recieved enough? there is £2000 in there, or does it depend how long the money is held in the account?

Sounds about right.

£2000 * 0.03 / 365 * 3 = 49.3p
(pounds) * (percentage interest) / (days in a year) * (days in the account)

Sounds like 3 days worth of interest at 3% pa on £2,000.

From 5 days ago to the 1st of this month is three days. Interest is normally paid in arrears, not in advance.

i dont know much about this can you explain in short?

The main reason i set it up is just to keep it out of the way, interest rates are only 3 percent average atm unfortunately lol.

Actually the calculation would be £2000 * ((1.05)^(3/365) -1 ) = 48.6p

Maybe because of the hugely different risk profile?!

Hardly.

If it's that much of an issue, lump it in funds which don't have much risk.

Shirely better than getting £0.50p interest no?

1) What income would you expect on a stocks and shares ISA for 3 days??

2) What low risk investment would you choose instead of cash, and what income would you expect to achieve on that over 3 days

????

rofl

Surely you much take into account the time period over which the 50p was earned and the level of risk.

Not saying I disagree with you at all, however, I'd like to see more of a return of £0.50.

Perhaps I Skandia Spectrum fund?

Even the lowest risk fund (Skandia 3) has 15% in property and 30% in equities.

And what is the current dividend yield on that fund - maybe 4%?

So you'd end up with a return of 63p not 50p.

And you have large mark-to-market risk.
