Credit reports and mobile phone companies
Discussion
Does getting a credit report harm your credit rating? How much detail do you have do give companies like Experion to be able to check it?
I signed up online for a new mobile phone contract last night, and have just had an e-mail from the supplier (buymobile.net) saying Iv'e been refused by the network (EE). Only reason I can think of them refusing someone is credit rating, but I'd expect mine to be good (mortgage that I've never missed a payment on, 2 credit cards paid off every month).
Is it worth me just signing up again and hoping there was a wrong bit of info on the application, or should I be checking my credit rating and seeing if EE will give me a reason?

Does getting a credit report harm your credit rating? - No, not in the slightest.
How much detail do you have do give companies like Experion to be able to check it? - Lots, name, dob, all addresses for as long back as you want to search, probably more too.

Might not be the only reason.
Is it worth me just signing up again and hoping there was a wrong bit of info on the application - Maybe, it's rare as the information is usually transposed directly from your application.
or should I be checking my credit rating and seeing if EE will give me a reason - Few, if any business will give a reason for declining to do business with someone, I've never really understood why, but they don't - chances are you'll get a "computer says no" answer anyway.
I'd check you're credit information, there's a few ways of doing it, most are painfully over-priced and over promise what they do for you - I'd try some kind of free trail and make sure you cancel before they start billing.

I didn't realise they were that cheap, I'll give it a try.
It's only a <£14/month contract too
I did wonder if it could be something silly like me putting Chris on the form and them checking it against something that said Christopher, I've had that before when visiting some sites and the gatehouse taking ages to work it out.

Any others you can think of off hand? Colleague just suggested I check my credit rating as I could have been a victim of identity theft which makes sense. Lived in my current house for about 8 years so doubt it's anything to do with the address or I'd have discovered it now. It's only a <£14/month contract too

I have an excellent rating with Equifax and Experian but only have 2/5 from Callcredit, yet they all have the same info them.
Presumably EE get a report from one of those 3, but I have now ay of knowing which one so will need to check all 3, or will EE be able to tell me which one they use?Studio117 said:
Cheers.Forgot i had a credit card with £19 sat on it
Funny you should mention this OP.
My GF went to get a new contract from EE at the weekend; she was refused by their system. She has a pretty short, but otherwise good credit rating.
As she couldn't sign up, I did it for her. I was refured by the system, although eventually accepted and offered TWO handsets. Very strange as I have had phone contracts for years with no issue and I have a pretty good credit rating.
Perhaps it is something to do with EE's end of things...?

I was once the victim of identity theft and my score went from almost perfect to almost nothing very quickly.
It took a long time and a lot of work by RBS (I was alerted to it as at the end my credit card had a very strange bill on it) to get it sorted. Of course, that was a case of identity theft AND fraud on my credit card by the same person....

Well buymobiles say it's EE who refused me and I'd have to ask them, but EE say it will be buymobiles that refused me and I'd have to ask them
I did notice that I'd put my name as Rizzo Rat on the form when it's Mr R T Rat on my bank card so I've tried reapplying with the exact wording that's on my card as I should have done in the first place to see if that makes a difference.

Just out of interest, I just signed up to Noodle as it seemed to recommended highly here.
I'm sure they have all the correct history address details etc etc but it says:
Bankruptcies and Insolvencies
You have no Bankruptcies or Insolvencies recorded on your report.
Judgments
You have no Judgments recorded on your report.
I thought I may have had a CCJ, is this the judgements that they talk about above, ie, I don't have one still?? Does this mean that I will be clear on Experian etc or is it not that simple?
Any advice appreciated.....thanks.

Which? says that if you really want to be sure about your rating you need to check your file with all three major agencies. I understood, when looking at the FAQs on Noddle and Googling it just now, that the credit history goes back 6 years. If your CCJ was prior to that it may be that, like points on a licence, it is now wiped.

All three bureau's hold differing levels of information. Noddle is via Callcredit so it may that the CCJ is registered via equifax or experian, so you would need to check all three to be sure.I'm sure they have all the correct history address details etc etc but it says:
