Hi all

I just had my annual barclaycard statement though the post and I spent £9,700 through it in the last 12 months (and got no rewards, air miles etc!)

Can anyone recommend a card that gives rewards for expenditure of this level? I hear of people getting free flights here there and everywhere through their credit cards, but maybe they spend significantly more than me!

Thanks in advance!

BA Amex card....if you get the Black one you get a free companion flight if you spend £10k a year. You also get airmiles for your spending.

Thanks - I will check this out! Sounds spot on.

You do need to clear your balance every month otherwise the interest rate is horrendous.

Virgin have a similar card though the benefits are slightly different.

Cheib is correct: BA Amex Black gets you Avios points plus a companion voucher if you spend £10,000 in each year of having the card. It also has an annual fee of £150.

I have had a BA Amex Blue since they first came out. More spend is required in the year to get the companion voucher. I get one a year. There is no fee.

Note the spend required is for each annual period of the card, not simply the accumulated amount: if you spend less than the amount in a year then at the end of the year the clock is rest to zero.

IMHO best use of Avios points and the companion ticket is to upgrade to BA club using Avios points, something I get to do each year, much appreciated by the wife!

In Particular, the Amex Platinum.

5% on the first (within 3 months) £2,000 - £100
0.5% on £2,000 - £3,500 - £7.50
1% on £3,500 - £7,500 - £40
1.25% £7500+ - £27.50 (if you'd spend £9,700 again).

In total you'd of earnt £175 for doing nothing extra.

EDIT - I'm not a fan of the "rewards" cards. A "free" flight might be handy but they are very convoluted and restrictive IME - especially as I'm more into package holidays. Plus, I know I'll always have a use for cash...

EDIT 2 - Theres nothing stopping you using it for the into promo period and then using another card for the rest of the year. I've got a second Amex (Gold chargecard) which I'm using just for the inital "spend £2,000 and get a £100 Amazon gift card" promo, at which point i'll ditch it.
