Credit Report - Late payment... Confused
Discussion
Credit Report says I have a late payment. Just the one. Thing is, I have never made a late a payment...ever. How do I find out what this is, when it is from and so on? On researching it seems a late payment is basically like the cross they put on houses where there was plague...but on your financials. Are such things really as bad as people make out? I hear some people say these credit ratings aren't worth the paper they are proverbially printed on?
I had one earlier this year from British Gas because THEY forgot to set up my direct debit.
Didn't even know they were technically a credit account but they are.
They removed it once they realised the error. Still affected me by about 30 points IIRC even after they removed it.
Get your report and have a look. It's £2 for a one off standard one I believe.

Was it late or was it short?
Argos screwed mine because they didn't inform me the interest for something i bought 6 months prior was being added to my account, paid the standing order as normal but it was £6 short so went as a missed payment despite paying a big chunk as soon as i got the text message about it.

Which credit report? Confused how you know this, if you have seen a credit report you can see which account has the late payment. Or have you applied for something and been declined "because of a late payment"?? Noddle is the answer. I have found so many errors on credit reports over the years, including accounts belonging to totally different people recorded in error.
Yeah this doesn't make sense.
The OP is worried about a non-existent late marker on his/her credit report, but hasn't actually seen a credit report until they checked Experian, which doesn't show it.
I hope the OP isn't responding to an unsolicited e-mail about it!
Anyway, in answer to how it will effect you - not really is the answer, a single '1' marker won't make a tiny bit of difference, even if your 'score' changes.
Credit worthiness isn't some exam with a 100% pass rate - underwriters are looking for patterns, rather than obscure reasons to say no. The odd '1' marker will generally be listed under 'life happens'.
