I got a Tesco Clubcard one just over a year ago.... fking useless, I've had about £15 of points... I obviously need to spend more money...
I to have a tesco cerdit card, I use for every thing. Since oct 2012 I have saved around £150 in club car vouchers. I have a fuel card for my company car so I fill up at tesco and put the points on my credit card. Cant grumble at that.

Definitely get an Amex Platinum Cashback card.
Can't fault Amex service and the cashback level is pretty high.
And the 3 places you can use them are great Can't fault Amex service and the cashback level is pretty high.

Amex is accepted at nearly all petrol station, supermarkets, travel sites, and department stores. I use it for 90% of my spending. I carry a Halifax Clarity Mastercard to fill in the gaps, and I also use it abroad because there's no exchange fee.
Amazon and Paypal both accept Amex too if you do a lot of online spending.NNH said:

This.IME it's also the safest card for frequent travelers abroad; they're very vigilant against fraudulent activity and will deliver replacement cards etc to just about anywhere.

I use Amex all the time and rarely have to switch to visa. That's UK and abroad although the USA and Australia are my usual destinations, may be worse in europe.
I find coverage in Europe isn't great outside the tourist zones, but it seems to vary a lot by country: Benelux is bad; Hungary is good.jon- said:

That's my concern with Amex, I gather a lot of places don't accept them, especially abroad... All my cards have been visa before.
Well, thats not true. You can use amex everywhere where is a lot of tourism or busines people. I'm very pleased with amex and it makes travelling easy and safe. Travel online service is a top notch on and cs is too. Also travel insurance is one of the best.I don't know is it a best card what is available, but i have been very pleased with it.
RBS Black credit card. Costs me about £18 a month.
Don't get miles, cashback or any of that, but I get:
Free travel insurance - I travel a LOT.
Free Greenflag roadside breakdown cover.
Free household emergency callouts for leaks, break-ins etc.
Free boiler care - used that a fair few times and saved a fortune.
Free mobile phone insurance for up to 5 phones a year.
and a loads of other less used stuff!
Depends what you need/want.

I see the Luma cashback card hasn't been mentioned yet... 4% cashback up to £225 a month on groceries and fuel. We have 2 of them and it's an easy £18 a month. Only downside is that it's currently unavailable!
Also use Amex Platinum cashback and Barclaycard platinum cashback which is being discontinued this month (2% back on top 5 purchases a month).
Then I have the Halifax clarity for cash/purchases abroad. And a Tesco credit card. And the Lloyds Avios credit cards. And a Nationwide Select credit card. Reason I don't cancel old cards is because it's better for your credit rating!

I just looked at that as I am thinking of cancelling my £450 a year Amex Platinum card. Trouble is RBS seem to have discontinued it:-http://personal.rbs.co.uk/private/our-products/cre...
If anybody knows of any other alternatives to Amex I would love to hear? I need\want Priority Pass, Travel Insurance and any other benefits.
After reading this it seems my Halifax Mastercard isnt doing a thing for me in terms of cashback. Its always cleared in full each month.
Although I do have a current account with Halifax, which means I get cashback offers from random places. This year I have saved about £22 using them.
Is it possible for me to have both the Halifax accounts and have a Santander current account and credit card?

amexlol
Understand that it's often not accepted at businesses, I guess they won't stomach the merchant costs involved. I find this is common at hotels, restaurants, rural areas with small businesses generally, and many places abroad. By abroad, what am I saying? Well if you holiday in Florida and Rome like all the Americans, your amex will work fine.

I've got an amex through work which is a dollar one, which basically means it has no chip and everything has to be signed which is a massive PITA - BUT there has only been 1 or 2 places that have not taken it so far. I've paid for stuff from all sorts of places on it, so I think its getting better.
Amex being accepted 'hardly anywhere' is simply not true.
The only places I regularly go that don't accept it are the post office and the Japanese place I have lunch in sometimes. For those I use my Visa.
It's really not a big deal to carry two cards and the benefits of Amex more than make up for this.

As I've said already (is this thing on etc.), I use my Amex almost exclusively for everything I spend. Currently racking up almost 100k Avios a year on it, which is a return flight for two to the US each year.
I think it's worth it.
