Hello, unsure whether to post this here or in sl&l.
In January I took out a gym membership. I had a well paid job then and everything looked good. I promptly lost the job abd for 3 months I was jobless but still somehow managing to pay everything. 3 months into my new job and my gym membership hasn't been paid for 2 months.
The dd was cancelled for some reason and I had to pay manually. When I paid manually I was told the dd was redone. It wasn't. I got a letter the following month saying I hadn't paid, I called the gym, they said they had sorted it. They haven't. Just got a letter today saying I have 7 days to pay them 152 pounds otherwise they will pass me on to theor Debt Recovery Department.
I don't want this to happen but I just don't have 152 pounds to my name.
I also don't remember signing anything at the gym, especially not with a dd company.
What do I do next? I've asked the gym for my contract as I want it to look at but they don't seem to have it, apparently DFC do.
I don't want to contact them until I have sone sound advice.

Thanks in advance.

Write a polite letter to DFC saying that you must see a copy of the contract before settling the bill, and that the gymn said it has been passed to them. Send it recorded delivery because otherwise they will conveniently lose it.

Who is the debt collector and how did £152 become £1500?

Collection Direct (UK)
How 152 turns into 1500 I don't know, that's what I'm trying to find out. It will be Monday before I can talk to dfc so I might be able to find out then.

So the gym passed it to DFC Bespoke Direct Debit Services who passed it to Collection Direct (UK)?

These places are machines, you can trip them up with intelligent letters that will see you clear in court, but if you do nothing you'll get nailed.

Write a polite letter to Collection Direct saying that you sent a letter to DFC by signed for delivery requesting a copy of the contract, but you have heard nothing. Enclose a copy. Say you want to be helpful but are still awaitng a reply.
