Co-op is quite expensive. Financially they're a bit fked and realise that most people who shop there do so because it is the nearest. One near me is full of students - it is the nearest place for them and so the prices have gone up as students don't give a toss.
Interesting stuff going on at Co-op.
When you say the grocery business is "a bit fked", are you actually referring to the Co-op bank? Which was bailed out internally by the sale of other group businesses?
Have to say, my experiences of the Coop "supermarkets" (LOL)is not good. I'll admit that their bakery stuff is good and there are some quality products but the empty shelves, high prices, miserable staff (except Broadford on Skye) do not encourage you back. Folks in Richmond use the Coop if they have to but would rather travel the 10 mile to Darlo or 5 mile to Tesco

I think he's laughing at the buy price.

Thoughts on price?
Figure it's going through a short term bounce, be good if it gets to £2 but think it stalls soon and makes a move back to retest/break the low. Imo downtrend breaks when it gets above £2.12

Oh right.

Well seeing as my investment decisions seem to have paid off on the whole over my life - I couldn't really care what he thinks wink

Is this the last of the bad news out in the open
Looks like Dave has kicked the value low enough to give himself a real good low base to build from.

No doubt Xmas trading will be tough, however I think this might be already priced in.

Really tempted to buy some shares (@1.72)

I'm predicting a slow burn back to £3 over the next 3 years, with the odd big dividend due to asset sales.
2013 performance was so poor that it will benefit 2014 like for like comparisons.
The rumour (and only that) is the property portfolio is valued £20+B, today's mkt cap is <£15b

I would wait till after Christmas. There is nothing on the horizon to suggest that Tesco will be pulling any positive rabbits out of hats before then. Just like LVG at Man Utd I think that Tesco's recovery is going to be very long. If they have a very bad Xmas this year then you might be able to pick them up even lower. As we approach Xmas the markets will be already factoring in news about sales.

The decline is going to go on for many more years. Not sure any material changes have been made to the business, all we've had are the emergence of some of the skeletons in the cupboard. The impact of this and the rest of the bad news that has been pouring out for years will take a long time to undo. Junk status for customers = junk status for investors.

The business should be really simple. Buy products and sell them for more money. And they have the largest market share. Meaning they should be able to buy cheaper and sell cheaper. They also have lots of real estate which they could potentially sell if they need cash. I don't see all the doom and gloom. People need to eat - and whilst there is now competition Tesco are not going to disappear.

In the last year it's market share has dropped by ~5%, share price down over 50%. In the last 6 months profits are down over 90%, sales down ~5%. And that's just the numbers, the politics and sentiment towards the business is woeful. They lost the plot years ago, and it's going to be years and years before they turn it around.

People will continue to eat indeed, just not so much stuff bought at Tesco.

People bought shares based on the financial information they put out, surely someone has to do time for this.

Time in Marbella, maybe. Time in jail? I doubt that very much.

Tesco may regret pissing in the well this past 15 years though, because there's not a lot of public goodwill towards them (having claimed against someone insured by Tesco about 10 years ago I can say in all seriousness that their bad attitude was only matched by the chronic ineptitude of their staff).

Tesco spent years fighting for PP to build a store in my town. After several attempts and a suspicious closed-door meeting with councillors, they got it. And then they decided not to build the store after all. That leaves half a derelict industrial estate - the land of which they bought and then used the 'eyesore' factor as part of their PR campaign - still derelict. They could at least sell it to Morrisons!

More bad news for Tesco's shareholders this morning. Is this the bottom now ? Not sure how long the recovery will take, i'm guessing several years. Appear to be moving in the right direction reading Dave Lewis' statement to the press.

So police not interested in financial fraud. I’m down more than 8k in investment value. If this was one of us, setting up a company and fiddling the figures, we'd be dealt with. Seems like fraud is okay as long as its a big company.

Police also not interested in hoax calling (my mother for the last 10 years). The no health service not interested in mentally ill people (my mother for the last 30 years). The council don’t take rubbish for three months (my house). What is the friggin point of government other than to divide people and wage war.

I bought Tesco at £2.30 and again at £2 - I'm confident that this will be a good medium/long term investment.

I would buy more but don't want too much exposure until the outcome of the investigation has panned out.
ha ha.

Well done to those who bought in sub £2.

Any guesses on where they are heading? Brought in at 187.5 and am wondering when to come out...

I think they will be over £3 by the end of the year.

I bought them for the long term and don't plan on selling unless another opportunity presents itself.

Just a guess might try and go for the 247 if it gets above that then more or less clear to 296ish, otherwise a tag of close to 247 and then a retrace to about 200. At least that's what the crystal ball said.
