I see some profit! 2 stand outs so far:

Noasnoas - the long term trader who trades fairly small and infrequently. Currently +3.5% ROI on account. So far, I would feel most comfortable putting money on her.

FCInvestment - +8.5% , but not sure how sustainable it will be as I think that account has swung around a bit.

The others are just swinging around not doing anything too exciting. Weekly update on friday and we'll see how those accounts stand then.

Time for a weekly round-up.

Noasnoas - not really taken tons of trades but it's been pretty slow and stable. +4% ROI

MaxxizLT - He had been up about 8% at one point, it was starting to look good. As usual though he has had some big equity swings, he's holding some sizeable losses and averaging - looks a bit useless. Account is now -2% overall.

Maria421 - I gave up hope with her anyway. No idea what she's been up to, but just been doing some small trades holding a single position. Now seems to have opened up more positions. -28% overall, I have no intention of putting any money behind her so i'm going to unfollow her.

FCInvestment - I suppose this is the star of the 'portfolio'. He's had a good week. It's been slow going up till this week. +11% ROI on account.

BestTraders - Seems to be in loss, -11% overall. I haven't been following it much to know how bad he really is.

4ExPirate - Boring....I don't know what the guy does, but making money isn't it despite having over 2000 copiers. It's bizarre really. Still breaking even with him.

I'll run the others for a bit more and see what develops. Will be interesting to see if FCI spunks it all away in a day. Noas looks fairly 'safe' as in a lower risk gamble compared to some of the other nutters on there.

Gary,
Try and find a portfolio with tonnes of trades. The more trades they have done the more points of information you have as to whether they really do know what they are doing and have any form of skill.

I would be much more interested in a portfolio that was up 10% on the year with 2000 trades than up 10% with 20 trades. Worth thinking about....

I think I did add a higher frequency trader a while back. My criteria was lower leverage and high frequency. MaxxizLT has over 7300 closed trades in the last 12 months. I would consider that fairly high. The next one I add to my list will be a high number of trades. However, if they are a swing/position trader then they may only take a few trades over the week thus making it difficult to get a sample in the thousands. What if they have 3 years of profitable trading averaging 100 trades over the year?

Another week round up, i've been paying less and less attention to this. I am sort of going off the idea except there may be one or two hopefuls in the mix.

Noasnoas - seems to have had another good week. Out of the lot, she's probably the one I would commit money to. +8% ROI on the account.

MaxxizLT - He has sizeable equity swings (at least more than what should be considered as acceptable) but it's been a good week for him. +14% on account.

FCInvestment - It hasn't been a great week for him, he was looking good last week but that seems to be the way it goes with them. +2.5% on account.

BestTraders - Not a great week, -10% on account.

4exPirate - The guy has over 2000 copiers and I haven't seen anything impressive. I don't get it. Break even again on the account with him. I'm going to trial him for a bit more and then cut him if nothing develops.

Wonder if the copiers are fake accounts.

Possible. Also I think dummy accounts are included in the total.

I do have a few beacons of light at the end of the tunnel. I've been paying less attention to it these days but there is some progress. Whether or not i'm willing to commit money to this is a different matter. Whilst one is looking good, i'm probably just on the good side of a sizeable equity swing, noasnoas is fairly conservative - +10% overall. MaxxizLT has me currently +38%. We'll see how it fares on Friday.

I bailed out of doing this. Only ever did it in demo mode and results were rubbish. Didn't like the trading platform much either.

As I alluded in my previous post that there had been some success.

noasnoas - still seems to be the pick of the bunch. I'm almost considering putting a bit of money behind her. +12% ROI on account.

MaxxizLT - He has had some sizeable % swings along the way. Currently +38% ROI overall.

FCInvestment - Seems to be a bit all over the place - one week profitable, another week losing. -5% ROI.

BestTraders - not impressive either -16% ROI

4exPirate - I have no idea what this guy does. Breaking even still. -0.7% overall. I see nothing interesting going on and am going to stop copying him.

Thread re-boot!

Anyone still at this? I put in £100 of actual money to try it out. I'm copying Noa who earned me ~ $1.50 yesterday and 4exPirate who didn't earn anything. I think I may be excluded from his trades as I have not allocated enough copy-cash to him.

I've never looked into the detail of this, but on the face of it, it seems like an inherently bad idea.

One, it's marketed at the typical get-rich-quick retail punter idiot, heavily advertised on Facebook etc. - that already tells you a lot about its status as a financial product.

More importantly, if you look at something like share trading - trading, not investing - then in many ways the odds are stacked against you and the only way to win is by beating everyone else, either in simple time or by taking a more conservative risk than them. If you take a highly traded share like most stuff on AIM, you're pitting yourself against other individual PIs, not some abstract market force. Copying other traders is the opposite of that idea, and likely to net you a big fat loss.

4exPirate is useless. Stop copying him right away imo and put it on noa. It's your cash of course, but i've been break-even with him for over a month.

I tried eToro but found it boring, and frustrating. It's far more interesting and potentially rewarding (not just financially) to trade your own ideas.

Also I found that I couldn't get enough proper info about the traders and their history, or trading systems, from the eToro site. It's a little too opaque.

Another weekly update. At this point I seem to have 2 star performers. The rest are nothing interesting.

Noasnoas - Still seems to be the best one I am following in terms of swings. +11.5% overall. She dropped a bit since my last update but not a concerning amount.

MaxxizLT - +43%, seems to have me in a lot of positions. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting much behind him due to the swings i've seen from him.

FCInvestment - Currently -2.5% overall. Nothing very impressive from them and i'll probably stop copying soon.

BestTraders - Not looking good at -23%. Same thoughts as FCI.

Now the question i'm asking myself is whether I feel brave enough to commit a few pounds to noas. I don't want to get hit by bank wire charges and pay £20 or whatever it is the Banks charge these days. I think I saw Etoro charge £5 for a withdrawal (may have been $5). I'll keep running this on dummy, I may look around at others to follow too as it's getting a bit thin. I am just not sure if I can bring myself to put money behind these people. If I can't then perhaps this exercise is somewhat moot.

I've now earned enough on my investments in Noasnoas, Tesla and Apple to pay the $5 fee to remove funds! It was an interesting experience but I can make money much quicker just doing a few hours overtime now and then.

It could work for some people, but like any investment at my stage of life, the returns really need to beat the interest I can save paying off the mortgage early smile
