Just wondering how much notice I`d have to give the bank to withdraw £5000 from my account and what`s involved ID etc.

Depends on the branch really. I've walked in and just been given it before. Another branch turned me away and said I had to order it in with a few days notice.

Call the branch before hand to be sure.

I have had this only a couple of times in the past,I can undrstand them eding to get larger funds in if you were asjing for 20k+ but for 5k to 10k usually a bit of "its my money and I want it now" works, its not as if the bank waits for any money they want to charge you.

Depends on the size of the branch.

I went into a small branch to withdraw 5k and was told that they don't even have 5k cash in the whole branch!

I was told to go into one of the larger city centre branches where they can process 5k with no notice required, just take some ID.

I recently spoke to HSBC, you can take up to £5K straight over the counter without ordering, just need id and a check.

I had no problem getting up to £5k out of HSBC but Nationwide would only give me up to about £700, I had to give them 3 days notice if I wanted any more than that

From my experience it depends if it's a real bank or a so called 'bank'. Traditional banks, Nat West, HSBC etc have no problem, building societies like Santander, Nationwide etc don't like it. I ended up getting a £5k cashiers cheque from Santander and then paying it straight into NatWest, who then gave the cash without any quibble.

Usually a bit of notice is fine, recently withdrew £14k with two days notice to Santander, they just asked approximately what time of the day would I be in to collect it, I assume for security reasons.

Take a balaclava and a banana with you, just in case. You'll be ready for any eventualities. biggrin
