How many new debit cards??

So far this year I've had 7 !! "Card read error" at the ATM or when it's swiped. Embarrassing to be honest. It's in a good clean wallet and not getting damaged. Is this the norm???

Are they contactless cards? I have yet to have one that worked from Lloyds.

I've had this quite a few times too and it happens more often than not with the same type of machines.

A few of the shops have pointed out that my card has the smaller chip on the card and this seems to be the issue they see.
