I save roughly 50% to 60% of my gross income.
Serious question....how the fk do you manage that? Knocking off tax & NI will only leave around 65% of gross in the 1st place.

Or am I missing something obvious?

Anything between five and seven grand but I'm probably fked up, I work loads and dont spend a lot (never been comfortable having more than 1k a month spent) I do 99% of things myself and I don't even have a car anymore to save money.

All I have is a pushbike and a Vespa scooter.

He has to save his income to pay deductions later on.

You really need to get a life. What's the point of earning and saving that much and depriving yourself of the good things? Ok I'm sure you will spend it at some point (actually, no I'm not) but that's no use if you die in the meantime.

Are you a hoarder, with rooms full of newspapers from the 80s and stuff? wink

Edited - I'm assuming you meant you saved that amount per month and not per year.

I love these threads. Are we at the bit yet where we all get our cocks out?

Give me some warning just before we are as mine is so massive it takes a good 10 minutes to unravel it.

We save about 55% of our net income. Occasionally more or less depending on a number of variables.

Fair shout wink

What percentage you save isn't a function of wealth, more a function of living a ralarivlry simple life.
You could save nothing but earn far more and have a fking great time.
Also depends on your age.
Agreed its a pretty meaningless figure, it's part of the reason why I find these threads so amusing. Everybody seems to have a different idea of what is income; everyone has a different idea of what savings are. With no understanding of one persons lifestyle against another it ends up as random numbers picked out of the air. It's funny though to spot those who are either making stuff up or clearly bullstting.

You'll notice I've not answered the question however. Primarily this is because I'm confused as to what constitutes savings (Pension contributions?? Mortgage repayments?? Money I just don't spend??); do I express it as an absolute number IE: pounds / month ; or a percentage?? ; if as a percentage, a percentage of what? (UK nett/gross/basic salary/all payments). I could seek to impress & make it the perceived largest figure, or make it a perceived small figure.

I find it interesting how on these threads people can play games with these variable to create the impression they want.

My old man sacrificed holidays etc and put loads in a pension on the basis he would do all the things he wanted to when he retired.

He retired, and two months later he died.

Live life while you can and make sure you save enough, but don't live a quiet life on the basis that you will do stuff next month/next year/when you are 79, because it might never happen.

I put about 10% into my pension, 10% of net into mortgage overpayments and 'save' between 10 and 20% of net.

I have a casual weekend job that goes into a toy / frivolous purchases fund which makes saving a lot easier.
