As I understand it, shops don't like them as they cannot give them back as "change" and they are charged for taking them into the bank.
If shops don't take them for this reason then the largest note they will typically take will be the £20 note. So why are they taking the £20 note as they'll never be able to use it for change either Do you understand?
understand what? Here's the second half of your original post:

They aren't often forged as people are so wary of any £50 note more co than a 10 or 20.
Personally, if you want to carry cash, a few £50's take up less room in your wallet.
my wallet however is usually full of credit card receipts.
That's about forgery and space in your wallet. Nothing about bank charges. Maybe you could explain which banks charge for depositing a £50 note as I've never had a problem?Personally, if you want to carry cash, a few £50's take up less room in your wallet.

his, I have lots of trades client and they'll usually pay cash, often in £50s. Rarer to get £100s but it is known.
I paid for my car in £50s so there's plenty of them around. It's just that a lot of places won't take them. But if they don't want my money...
Very rare to get £100 note I would imagine. I think £50 is as high as we go.I paid for my car in £50s so there's plenty of them around. It's just that a lot of places won't take them. But if they don't want my money...

Go in to a pub on a Friday afternoon. All the s will have them.
EFAI'd be embarrassed to hand £50 over in pub.

Might be a bit different in other countries though... I've seen someone paying for their dry cleaning with a 200 euro note in Germany
I experienced a Chinese lady trying to buy a 4 Euro sandwich with a 500 Euro note in Venice last year! They did accept it after a few checks.grand cherokee said:
that reminds me of a tale from an 'undertaker' I know - collects bodies where crime is not suspected
went to a house and thousands of cash was under the mattress - unfortunately the deceased died in bed and the notes were ruined due to body fluids!
Just bag them up, the money that is, and send off to Bank of England. They actually have a department that deals with ruined notes and replaces themwent to a house and thousands of cash was under the mattress - unfortunately the deceased died in bed and the notes were ruined due to body fluids!

I had some a wee while ago but it's not common. They're good because you need fewer of them but they're harder to count because they're bigger and don't fit in the hand as well as a twenty.I got given a load with one fifty folded over another like people do with 20s to make £100. Drives me nuts, I like to put them all in a normal pile and count them one by one.
I'm sure we've got at least two colours of £50, green and pinkish. Then the £100 is a different pink again.

Thus £5 notes are blue, £10 notes are brown, £20 notes are maroon/purple, £50 notes are green and £100 notes are red.

To aid identification the Scottish banks have all agreed to issue notes of specific value in the same predominant colour.

I'm sure I've had pinky £50s- are they BoE ones then? Thus £5 notes are blue, £10 notes are brown, £20 notes are maroon/purple, £50 notes are green and £100 notes are red.
went into a Nat West branch yesterday - they only had £200 in £50's in the branch?
and they looked at me as if I was 'dodgy' when I asked for said notes
a few friends are antique dealers and they use £50's and Scottish £100's but they keep said notes 'in the trade' - none are willing to 'sell' outside the trade - closed shop
mind you the banks are all pushing for a cashless society - far easier for them
I use cards but some people take it to silly extremes - was in Tesco today and the woman in front paid 64p on a card for ffs!
cards have their uses but in my opinion you need to have a substantial cash reserve in the event of problems
imagine hackers taking down the banking system? - has already been done on a small scale
then look at Greece - your cards are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot - speaking to some in Greece, those with cash have had an absolute field day buying everything for cash - from gold/diamonds/cars to whole business's
a few Brit wheelers and dealers apparently went to Greece (with the 500Euro note) and had a field day, lol!

Sainsburys took a payment for 40p off my Visa! Saves fishing for change.
I tend to have £20 cash, for the butchers or market stalls. Or a pint after work.

This is what contactless is for. Quicker than finding change.

but you are totally reliant on the computer system functioning - it goes 'off' and you are FUBARI tend to have £20 cash, for the butchers or market stalls. Or a pint after work.
remember all the recent system failures when people could not get their wages etc due to a bank technical 'malfunction'?
I prefer a safety net of cash, plus you get better deals
I trust in cash/gold and Samuel Colt, lol
