I tend to have £20 cash, for the butchers or market stalls. Or a pint after work.
but you are totally reliant on the computer system functioning - it goes 'off' and you are FUBAR

remember all the recent system failures when people could not get their wages etc due to a bank technical 'malfunction'?

I prefer a safety net of cash, plus you get better deals
So you want me to have all my money cash?

I went to a pub, upon arriving told there was a power cut. I had to convince the barman to do me a few pints and I'll pay cash. He didn't want to take it. So even cash isn't always going to get you what you want.

Chances of every online money service going down? I have several banks. If something as crazy as the entire internet banking system goes down, me getting my Ocado delivery probably isn't that high up the list of prioritys.

you get me wrong - I don't want you to do anything

maybe you barman did not want cash as his electronic till was not working?

I just expressed my opinions

but given the increasing sophistication of hacking I'd be reluctant to rely on any online banking system - govt's take the same view

its not 'if' but 'when' said attack happens - and it will happen with increase cyber activity by nations hostile to the UK/USA/Europe

Given the choice I'd have cash every time.

There can't be many pubs in the UK refusing cash in any circumstances. I'd say you were very unlucky.

The till wouldn't open. So I imagine he didn't want money on the counter or his pocket. It will either be stolen or look like he was stealing it.

as you say - cash every time

plus its untraceable in most times and that is why govt's banks want to stop cash being used

in the cyber age - the old adage - 'follow the money trail works' but not with cash

frankly I find some peoples reliance on a web/net based system very worrying

ISIL and others see a weakness in our reliance on said systems

BUT

they are not stupid - look at many of the graduates going out to join ISIL - they are not bricklayers but people trained in technology

even a temporary hack will have more effect on the West than any car bomb in Syria/'Stan etc

If you have your own fruitful business mainly taking cash is a waste of yourself bettering yourself. Pay your proper dues and move up the ladder smoothly with no worries.

This is surely to do with the fact that the vast majority of people get the cash they need from the 'hole in the wall'. On the occasions when I have drawn out a large sum, there were no £50s. Is this the experience of others?

Eh?

If clients want to pay cash I take cash. What's that got to do with bettering myself?

I wonder how much cash is readily available in the system compared to the balance in the populations bank accounts, only a fraction is available isn't it?

I use cards but some people take it to silly extremes - was in Tesco today and the woman in front paid 64p on a card for ffs!
Sainsburys took a payment for 40p off my Visa! biggrin

Saves fishing for change. wink

The only place I use cash is the barber, because they don't accept cards. I'd rather earn points/cashback on everything and not worry about bits of metal in my pockets. If the "system" went down, I've either got 3 other cards to use or just wait it out with everyone else. It's not exactly a high-risk scenario.

Got a couple of £100 notes here (Scotland). They're quite a bit larger than other notes so get scabby quite easily. Once used one in a WRVS tearoom. The old ladies really stuggled with that. I can be cruel at times!

can't say i had a problem getting them from my bank when i bought a car recently though, walked into my bank asked to withdraw money handed a wad of £50 notes. don't think the English seller was too impressed though with my funny jock play money though

I don't think I've even used cash since about May.
Bought a banana for 11p on the credit card this morning. No change clanging about in my pocket and no time wasted visiting cash machines or paying loose change back into the bank.

Some traders seem to just take cash. Cash promotes bogus tax return's, which in return reduces that ones gross, that then enhances them not move up the ladder in ways of bettering themselves, such as purchasing bigger house and even now a luxury car because they do not have the gross return for loans and a bigger mortgage. Property would return them fruitfully through bricks and water investment.

Thats the basics of what I was saying, I should have been clearer.

Lots of Winchester residents pay in 50s. I do cash collection in a shop in Winch and I see more 50s here than anywhere else I've worked.
