Hopefully the knowledge of PH can help me point out exactly what I need as I'm not sure and don't want to be mis sold anything.
I own a ground floor flat of a building, my brother owns the upstairs flat. So together we own the whole building. We are in the process of jointly buying the freehold. When we purchased the flats we both got separate buildings insurance for the two flats, One each. My solicitor has informed me that when the contracts have completed those insurance policies must cease and a joint policy for the building in mine and my brothers names must be taken out. ( in fact it turns out we didn't need the insurance as the previous owner of the freehold had the building insured.) So, we need to find an insurance policy for the building it seems. Where to start..

Now, the ground floor flat that we own is rented out. So I will need landlords cover for my part. Where as my brother lives in his flat upstairs, so he does not. Will this cause any issues when looking for a policy. And can anyone offer any advice on where to find such a policy, what I absolutely must be covered for etc etc.
Thanks for any help with this.

Hi Rufusgti,

if you drop me a PM I will send you the contact details for one of the guys that works for my fathers property insurance brokerage. We can certainly cover for you and your brother.

There is one building that needs insuring with two units inside. block cover, landlords insurance liabilities / contents and your brothers standard contents insurance.

I work for the company but in a different area of the business, but I can get the right person to contact you.
