Hang on, in the first post you said you paid it all but the £150 in fees owed to Equita. you now say you have paid the £150 to the council. Isn't that the same £150?

Well spotted. I thought the OP had paid the Council Tax of c.£1K but was digging in over the agency's £150 charge.

But then:

this resulted in a circa £1k liability building up over a year.

I have cleared the entire balance with the council of £150, this is the same amount that Equita were demanding off me by phone yesterday.

You must have missed the part where I stated plainly that it was an oversight on my part and entirely my fault.
In which case, why are you trying to wriggle out of the consequences of that oversight?

Free advice, pay up . You'll get a ccj and much bigger costs

Hi

Just thought I'd set the record straight. First off, you won't get a ccj or and mention on your credit rating from the council obtaining a liability order. As stated previously, TCOG regs set in stone what a Bailiff, now enforcement agent can charge you. Once an liability order has been issued to an enforcement agent they act on behalf of the council and you should deal with them, not the council. The council in this case should not have accepted your payment as "direct payments" as they are known are not permitted. That's because the TCOG regs state that enforcement agents can have their fees prior to payments of the debts they are recovering. They are therefore fully entitled to carry on chasing you for the outstanding balance.

TCOG is taking control of goods by the way. I'd pay up before they levy on something and you incur more fees.

Thanks
