Sorry to sound extremely dim, but can someone please explain this Companion voucher?

I can fly anywhere in the world, any class and at any time within the next 12 months?
Book 1 seat with Avios get the 2nd free with the voucher, subject to Avios seat availability.

And only works when booking a seat with Avios, which is really annoying.

And if you don't have enough Avios points?

An easy way to gain another 22,000 Avios at the moment is to sign up for the Gold Rewards card. The card is free for the first year (£140 thereafter) and if you spend £2k within the first three months you get the 22,000 Avios. As an aside you also get two free lounge passes.

Mine arrived today, if anyone wants a recommendation.....biggrin

Does that work with the companion voucher though? (part cash/part avios I mean)

I've not tried but whenever I check on the BA Exec Club website it suggests how many Avios and how much £ when you move the slider up and down.

No. 2-4-1 voucher can only be used with full avios redemptions, not part pay

Change in circumstances for me with work and will be traveling a lot more now. Has anyone got the American Express Platinum Card? It's my understanding that you get access to lounges?

Thanks,

Thanks,
You get a Priority Pass card as part of the deal BUT Amex charge 2.99% forex fee every time you pay in a foreign currency. That's why I'm giving my Amex Platinum up in favour of the Lloyds Amex card which has no forex fees.

Thanks,
Yes. With the Uk card you get;
- A full (not the limited version) priority pass which gives you +1 guest access to lounges that they have agreements with, plus your supplementary platinum card holder also gets a full priority pass.
- Delta lounge access when flying on Delta
- Eurostar lounges
- American Express Centurion lounges (LAS/SFO/LGA/MIA/DFW/SEA).

You used to get a Cathay gold card which gave you oneworld status so you could access BA/oneworld lounges, but that has ceased if that is what you were hoping for. You also used to get AAdmirals club access, but again, that was discontinued.

I have a platinum card - happy to refer you for bonus points for both of us - drop me a mail if so.

I had this same debate recently, and it was cheaper to simply buy Priority Pass/Lounge Club membership. Why bother paying £450 a year, when the only real benefits are lounge and travel insurance on Platinum. The Travel insurance has been devalued in recent years, the only real regular benefits are the amex offers (i.e. retail), but I get them on my BA Premium Amex. I'm sure there some Plat only deals, but nothing to note as of late.

Heads up, Gatwick North is terrible for lounge access at the moment. BA have shut the Galleries Lounge so all people are going to other lounges. We had to queue for 25mins to get into MyLounge. If you haven't booked in advance, you'll get turned away - especially coming up to crazy season!

Interesting...

One of the benefits of the Platinum card is you get to bring a guest in with you? I'd feel like a bit of a bellend if I arrived at the airport and said to my colleague, right, see you later!

If you just want lounge access then you can open a Barclays account and add this bolt on when required:

http://www.barclays.co.uk/TravelPlusPack/TravelPlu...

You can turn it on and off as there is no min term so just activate it before you go on holiday and then you get lounge access for £13.50.

Your Platinum card won't get you many lounges but it comes with a Priority Pass card which will (except as somebody else posted in Gatwick North which can be difficult).

Seriously if you are going to travel a lot this card will cost you the £450 annual fee and all forex purchases cost an extra 3%. It's not worth it IMO.
