Yesterday received the annual renewal come through and I was surprised to see a significant increase.

Last year £335
Current proposed £517

Nothing has changed from last year to this year apart from an extra year of NO Claims added.
I've searched go compare etc for other quotes and they are at or above this level.

So what on earth has happened?
I've no points
I've no claims
I've no incidents
Has the F10 535d in one year become a much riskier car to own?

I know IPT has increased but that account for a 54% uplift.

No change for me at this years renewal. Sounds like you need to shop around

My point was that the industry risk rating for your details may have changed........Eg claims in your post code, for your car, age or occupation type....

Fair point.
I recall my RS6 being mid £200's a year for the exact same.... Go figure.

Still 54% uplift is a piss take IMHO

Given that you can't get insurance cheaper last year, the suggests that a) the premium quoted is very reasonable and b) you were probably charged too little last year!!

But last year and the year before were very similar - note I've been with this same company probably since 2009 in which time I've owned a number of different cars

So you've been undercharged for the risk for the previous 2 years!!

Insurance renewal pisses me off.

My situation of no claims, no points and same address have remained the same for probably over 10 years, yet every single year I get my 'automatic renewal' price through which is usually about £250-300 more than what I currently pay, which means I have to go through the ridiculous performance of putting my details into price comparison sites, and then phone my insurer who goes back and forth 'to their manager' until they magically manage to beat the quotes I found by about £3.l, meaning they keep my business.

rolleyes

This pantomime goes on every year for both cars.

You say that but on both years I had quotes for other suppliers and they were competitive. But on each year I've been adding more years NCD to my profile so clearly getting less risky as far as the ins co is concerned.

Likewise how can an RS6 be half the price? Plus the 330d before that how have I been undercharged for what 7/8 years

The car is only one factor.

As above, car insurance is a very competitive market, with very low margins.

If you can't find a better price, there's a very good reason for that!

And you're a year older - possibly moved into an age group with a higher risk rating ?

My Merc and wife's VW Tiguan auto-renewed with LV= last month and neither renewal premium was as much as your increase!

IPT went up 58%, although that only accounts for a small part of the premium.

Bottom line is, if you can't find a better quote, then it's obviously competitive, regardless of what you paid last year.

Put your wife on the spreadsheet, increase your excess within reason, calculate your mileage accurately, try the multi car approach with other household vehicles.

I'm sure you've done the above smile
