So I just had a phone call from Halifax. Withheld number. The guy I spoke to new my name, the details of my loan I have with them and where my branch was. I obviously didn't give any other details but he wanted me to pop into the branch for a meeting on how the can reduce my interest rates on my loan.

I made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon. Would this be a waste of time going to?

Anyone else ever had a call like this?

Most large company numbers don't appear on your caller display, if they do they either appear as 08 numbers or Private Caller or no number available.

Is it a waste of time? If they save you money, no. If they try and sell you something you don't want, then yes. Keep us posted.

Yes HSBC do this - it's just a review and a chance to cross sell to you. Do it if you haven't done so recently.

And no, they're not trying to sell you a cross rolleyes

It'll be a waste of time they will want you to increase the size of the loan or extend it to make more money.

I wish we could ring our customers and tell them to come and see us.

This is what I was expecting. Banks are a business at the end of the day so I wouldn't expect them to phone me to help me out whilst not having anything in it for themselves.

I will probably go though as it may be mutually beneficial. If they want to offer me a higher loan at a lower rate then I could use the extra to pay my credit card off and be better off monthly.

Anyway, the appointment is't until may 21st so if I remember I'll come back and conclude the thread. Thanks all.

They would be looking to refinance your loan (take out a new loan ideally at a lower rate in order to immediately settle and pay off your existing loan). You don't have to and won't be forced take out any additional borrowing or extend the term of the loan unless it makes sense for you. Lloyds Banking Group do not target or incentivise their branch staff like this.

My wife just got a call from a car dealership, apparently there is a shortage of her car as 2nd hand stock, would she want to sell it?

Got to be the oldest trick in the sales manual, get them in to talk about one thing, then bait and switch to another.

She honestly thought they were only interested in buying her car, not selling her a new one (bless).

What marque is it? I'm getting calls and emails at an intensity I've never experienced before from a Honda dealer.

VW in Toronto, maybe because they don't have any diesels to sell......
