USD cash transfer to UK, best ways?

Currently in the wilds of Ecuador earning USD (Cash). No, it's not pharmaceutical imports
Despite my modest wage I've built up a few hundred USD, hoping that once it hits the thousand mark I can make a transfer to the UK and top up my ailing bank account.
Any ideas on the best/most effective way to do this? I've had a look at MoneyGram/Western Union but not sure how the fees would stack up... Or indeed how dependent they would be on the local agent's whims.
Sadly bank accounts here are a logistical nightmare to get, and I don't think they allow international transfers anyway!
