Just mentioning to guys who own or want a Pani 1299.

I am a year into the ownership of the Ducati 1299 I have covered 3000Km in the last 12 months, having read on the Ducati forums that some guys are having issues I was hoping to miss a problem child.
I dont ride hard or abuse the bike as its a bit of a handful in my novice hands.

On Xmas day my engine check light came on, and the quichshifter stopped working, I reset the thing and set of, then the issue got worse and the throttle started hunting. I stopped and in the menu removed the QS option, and went home, on the way home all lights on and engine warning lights as well as QS error came up.
Then for no reason I see some pixel issue with my dash display.
Very disappointing for a premium bike IMO.

so guys who are hoping to get a new Ducati with all Bosh electronics be aware the Ducati electric gremlins still exist.

But they look gorgeous so everyone should aspire to one even if they don't work.

On a more helpful note, does it need to be in race mode with the quickshifter turned off? Have you tried other modes? Not that it resolves the problem, but might make it slightly safer to ride.

I have switched the quickshifter mode to off, in the menu but the fault code still kicks up a code that shows rather alarming warning lamps, so i have decided not to ride it until the dealer has diagnosed the issue.

Problem is that they are far away and sending a AA truck to collect it, Im not happy but only glad its still under dealer warranty and yes as said they are very easy on the eye. I have always wanted a ducati superbike and went for this at my age (and a time I should be saving for pension)
In the past i had a older R1 and a Blade rode them like they were stolen left them in the rain and just did routine maintenance not a problem from either of them ....The Panigale' well Im not the only kid on the block with issues

I've heard of a few electrical issues too, but not as many as you might expect. I think the Panigale Range are generally quite reliable compared to the Ducati sports bike of previous generations.
As you say, it's covered by warranty, so just throw it back at the dealer and get them to sort it.
Out of interest, and as said above, why would you have it in race mode on the road,if, as per your own admission, you have novice hands ?
Most of the electronics are set up to be much more friendly in the lower modes, and it may be that the QS doesn't like being used at a leisurely pace, when it's set to work on full bore race style shifts
I'm no expert on these things, but I ran an 899 for 3k miles, and didn't have a single issue with it, other than I found the QS didn't want to work as it should at anything less than high RPM and a nearly wide open throttle
Still, the 1299's a lovely bike, and I reckon I could live with the odd problem on it just to look at it and hear the noise they make smile

I run it in race mode, simply because in wet or sport mode the throttle hunts, it's a known thing and in race mode the throttle is more linear.
When it idles and you toggle through the modes you can even hear the beast change its tone from sport to race, I rode it for 2000km before having the raisins to give it max power, and my god it seems to have that.... now I st myself on every outing

Was it wet? I've had similar on my 899. Problem seemed to be that the gear indicator connector was getting moisture in it. Resulted in no QS, engine light, gear indicator wouldn't show right gear and dtc just flashed with dashed lines.
Only other issue I had was a seized exhaust valve which ended up throwing a wobbly. I covered about 12k miles in the 899 last year in all weathers and it held up pretty well considering.

That must be why you bought it though smile
It'd be boring if it didn't scare you. 1299's such a cracking bike, it's shame it can't be reliable.
I was sooo close to having one as a track/race bike, but it's the price of parts (and the noise issues) that put me off and made me buy a ZX10R

My 1199 already had the dash changed just prior to me purchasing it. Just after me purchasing it the bbs went. The AA man dropped it getting it unloaded.

They're the common issues out the way so hopefully plain sailing now.

ACF 50 is your friend.

Mine is. 19 months in and no niggles whatsoever. Most reliable Duke I've owned (748, 749, 1098 owner over 15+ years)

899 just had its 7,500 service. $321 for a bloody oil change.. They gave it a thorough going over, brakes were good, rear still had some decent life, pointed out an issue with the integrated rear lights where one side flashed when braking, lubed the chain, gave it a wash and I decided to fit a new front tyre taking it up to $530-something. It hasn't missed a beat since I got it at 2,800 miles and I only get to ride it 1-2 weeks each month when I am in town. Polar opposite of my 1098s which was a disaster and even worse for the guy who bought it knowing my bad luck with it.

The 899 service went from 1.5hrs to over 3hrs because of the wheel change on a Friday early afternoon so they gave me a 1299 to play in the canyons until Monday. 1299 prepped and ready to go, I had a quick lunch over the road, came back, helmet on, key in, sat in the bike and I see the sales team waving frantically. One comes out and says... "your bike is ready!!!" BUGGER! No 1299 for me yet!

My mates 1299 has had 2 new quick shifters and a new engine! He got it on a PCP deal, he's handing it back for some reason.
