Checked my credit rating and netted 15.5K
Discussion
Checked my credit rating and it showed 15.1K owing on a second mortgage. Had been paying off for years, and it was gradually going down so was not concerned. For some reason after years of looking at the report every now and then, noticed that it's due date was next month, but I had 29 payments still to make. WTF sprang to mind.
Contacted the lender, a major high street bank, and told it was because we had taken 6 payment holidays over life of ten year loan. Told them politely they were payment holidays and not payment punishments!
After two days of checking, they acknowledged an error with the net effect of us getting £400 back and loan finished.
Moral of story is check you credit history and trust nothing, although to be fair the bank acted really swiftly and I have no complaints in this regard.
Hope this helps someone.

I wonder how many people check their bank & credit card statements? I have found errors on both over the years.
