Subaru Outback 3.0 (AWD)
Toyota Land Cruiser
3 litre BMW 5 series (winter tyres for snow). The sport has auto levelling rear suspension so great for towing.

As long as you don't come up here with your caravan, I would suggest the heavier SUV's will generally be a bit better.

If you do decide to come here... please fly wink

if you have proper uses for it, buy the SUV.

don't say its for a caravan - PHers say its for towing their track car, even though most of them just have a caravan.

CR-V EX models seem fully load and many seem to have tow bars.. I've heard they are decent at towing too.

Have had Subaru Forester in the past and found ride comfort and road noise unacceptable, what small 4wd SUV would you recommend...

It really depends on your budget & what other duties the car has to do besides take the caravan out.

Have not bought the caravan yet - a 4 birth

Other than towing the caravan it may have to drive me from the UK to Romania and cope with their winters....

A Volvo XC70 D5 should fit the bill.

Agree, and fitted with proper winter tyres will see you ok through Romania.

See also other estate crossovers like Passat Alltrack, Subaru Outback, etc.

Stuff like the Tiguan tend to have smallish boots and 2wd dominates. Stuff mentioned above will have proper big boots and have the weight to tow well.

From ownership experience, estate over SUV every time. Subaru over Volvo every time, also from experience. Later Outback with 3.6 flat six would be my pick.

Don't really want much bigger than 2.0 Diesel engine for car tax reasons.

Think I will need 4wd or Awd to deal with the snow.

Comfort / Refinement are top priority and sorry but I am after an automatic as well.

So come on let's have your suggestions.........

VW Tiguan
Hyundai Tucson
Etc....

Honestly, you need to have a rough idea of how much your caravan will weigh (the MTPLM) as that will partially dictate what car will be suitable...

I said a 4 birth, so around 1300kg

Pretty much any 2.0 diesel SUV or Estate will pull that, so looking for suggestions as to what to get.

As I said would like an automatic and comfort/refinement are important.

Just ordered a third RR Evoque for Mrs Get. Not a single problem in 65000 miles from the first two. Extremely comfortable front seats and driving position.

Nice green too!
