Guys, made a slight error, i changed bank and set up a new Direct debit for my credit card.

However it obviously hadn't set up yet, as my credit card never took the payment today.

Im not worried about the £12 late fee (its showing already), however i would like to minimise the interest.

I have sent a bacs payment for the full statement amount which should clear tomorrow.

However i understand (from previously) that all purchases since the last statement are no longer interest free, as full balance was not paid off in time.
I have spent £6K since, so will be a fair amount of interest!

If i make another Bacs payment of £6K will this save me paying the interest?

What happens to purchases after I've made this payment?
Do i need to send more than £6K to cover further purchases up to the next statement?

Anyone know how this works, as its all too confusing for me frown
Its MBNA if makes any difference.

Cheers

Ring them up and explain it was a mistake as you moved banks. Ask them for a goodwill gesture to refund the interest and fee

If it's your first time and you are a good customer they will do this

I'd be more worried about any late payment markers on your credit file however - especially if you want to get a loan/mortgage in the next X years.

In my experience, a couple of late payments don't seem to make a difference to the credit file.

Missed payments or defaults are the real problem causers.

I've only ever done this once, some years ago, and they waived the fee.

I pay manually by bank transfer every month and a couple of months ago the M&S one bounced back - the card number had changed but the card account number stays the same, so it should have worked (and subsequent payments did). I didn't notice until the next statement.

I called them expecting a battle but they hadn't added a fee or charged interest - still don't know why. I've always paid that one a bit early as I'd read they don't give any leeway.
