My wife ordered one of the Peter Rabbit coloured 50p coins that were sold by the Royal Mint last month. It was a run of 30k coins which was made because there was so much demand for the 15k run of the same type of coin in 2016.

The website was over capacity when she ordered - it told her twice that the order failed, and third time it worked.

Today three coins turned up...

They were £60 each.

The 2017 coins are currently selling (actually sold) on eBay for about £105 and the 2016 for about £500.

Should we hang on to the "extra" two until next year and hope they go up in value as well? Or is the £100 price now worth selling for?

Cash one out to recoup some cash (if that's an issue)

And then wait till next year for the other?

I collect 50ps (rock star I know) and have done for some time,,,, personally I don't rate the current batch of BP limited edition ones. I personally don't think they are worth £60 so did not bother. In fact I don't think any 50ps are worth £60. A lot of media hype tbh.

I'm with you on the above, I have also noticed people advertising new one pound coins on eBay for £250+ just because they are dated 2016 so think they are rare, the fact half a billion were minted in 2016 seems to have escaped them.

I would agree, I think the media are trying to hype up these to the max, the question is other than a slow news day, why do they bother?

Oh well as the saying goes, there is always a bigger fool, I always try to avoid things like these as "investments", but if you like them then they have an obvious value even if it isn't monetary, so nothing wrong with them.
