Hi
I have a workplace pension of approx 30k euros in Rep of Ireland. Not lived there since 2005 and would be interested in moving it over to the UK as the pension provider is not easy to use if I want to change funds etc.

I asked them and they said the UK legislation has just changed so I am not allowed to move it. I've asked them which legislation and they have yet to reply. Hewitt is the provider.

Any input appreciated...!

thanks
Mike

Probably something that Brexit has messed up, or is about to mess up - I would guess.

Nothing changed yet though.. hence I asked for the specific legislation and the provider has yet to errr, provide it.

Annoying thing is I asked them about moving it to UK a few years ago and they said it was not possible without giving a reason. I stupidly forgot about it and just logged in yesterday to find I've been contributing to the Irish pension "levy" (raid) for the past few years so it stoked up my interest in moving it back.

People can't always distinguish between actual "law" and internal procedures or policy.

With Brexit creating massive uncertainty about all sorts of "mutual recognition" areas, I wouldn't be surprised if many aspects of business and finance which were fairly well understood are now in a state of confusion - and will continue to be for many years down the line.

There have been recent changes to transferring from the UK to overseas but as far as I am aware there have been no changes transferring from overseas to UK.

Are you sure they don't mean an Irish legislative change?

Indeed that would make more sense but "due to recent changes in UK pensions legislation, transfers from Irish pension arrangements to UK pension arrangements are currently not being permitted".

Still waiting for them to clarify. As someone above said it could be a mix up of internal policy changes pending brexit vs "law".

Please post their explanation as I for one am interested in what they are referring to.

I agree with the purple one,

It is not possible to help without this.

Are you talking about the Republic of Ireland or NI?

Republic of Ireland, according to his first post. I can't imagine that a UK pension wouldn't be available in the UK!
