Shares held in certain companies listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) are eligible for exemption from UK Inheritance Tax (IHT) provided they meet the right criteria. The problem is knowing which companies qualify, and when they cease to qualify. There are investment companies such as Octopus, Puma and Thorntons that specialise in this field, but they expect to manage the investment for you.

Are there any programs or websites which give the private investor the information to know which AIM listed company's shares qualify, so they can make their own investment decisions?

Investor’s Champion has an online search tool to identify qualifying AIM companies, although there is a fee for this service.
