That looks like an epic trip - if you are anything like me there will be a lot of photos to sort out!

Puts our 3 weeks to Fuerteventura to shame although we are off again next week to Iceland and Mrs BVD is talking about booking a trip to Singapore and Bali for 2025. Got a Panama Canal cruise and Florida Keys over Christmas 24 to look forward to first though.

Retirement is rather good although when we are at home Mrs BVD can find me little jobs to do!

All this talk of hols in retirement and since I finally unshackeled myself from last employer I am sorting a solo motorbike trip for next month to france, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
In June I'm trying to sort out a dordogne trip in the car with wife and dog in tow and then in August we're off to Bogota in Colombia to meet the family of my soon to be daughter in law (assuming she says yes, he hasn't asked her yet but it appears she will be VERY keen on the idea!)

Must admit I am extremely sick of the ever persistent rain the UK has had over the last 6 months or so which has helped focus my attention to better climates.

Looks like a fantastic trip OS - glad you enjoyed it.

I feel quite nostalgic looking at some of those photos, having lived in both Singapore and Australia during my working career. Singapore's changed quite a bit since I was there (pre-F1 days), but it changes all the time: really must go back.

You've (probably not) missed all the rain here too - lucky it was only your shower leaking!

I don’t mind working still @62..
A few years salary in the bank.
Inheritances imminent, when the late in-laws house completes.
Generous salary, 45 days leave (can buy some), wfh, don’t do much tbh.
Eg work/walk the dogs/run/bit of diy/done by 4pm.
Maybe will knock it on the head soon.
Just came here to brag?

Apart from having to mix with some PH barge-istes, that sounds pretty good.

Sounds like I'm not the only one taking long holidays/planning more. smile I didn't miss the rain, though we were a bit unlucky with the weather while in Sydney as we had a few damp days, but made the most of them anyway.

I can imagine Singapore has changed since you were last there V12GT though of course it was all new to us and we found it an interesting place. We always do so much walking when on holiday, especially as it took a few days to sort out Metro tickets in Singapore, so we just walked everywhere from near Raffles to The Gardens by the bay...no wonder we clocked well over 20,000 steps a day while there. biggrin I need to try to keep that up now we're back, but the rain doesn't help, so indoor DIY jobs will take over for now and of course the usual band stuff as we've got gigs coming up soon.

You seem well sorted Prolex with the pension and holiday/trip plans too...looks like a packed year to enjoy. beer

I thought annuities died with you, so to speak. I was unaware that the wife could benefit from it. Though I suppose they are less useful now that rates have reduced again.

Mine is 100% protected (fixed term) and there were similar options for lifetime annuities as well when I started mine. As you say though, rates have reduced a bit now, so I was lucky catching it when I did and it's really made a difference to me. I set my own up though as the IFA's cut didn't benefit me at all and I got a better rate without him.

Well,a few plans:

Flying down to AZ in a couple of weeks to help OH close up the winter house and then driving the Panamera back to Canada . On way back have booked a place in Russelville Arkansas to see the solar eclipse . Will be a zoo but I saw the 2017 eclipse and it was amazing.
Stopping in to see the Crystal Bridges gallery where the Walton family (Walmart) have spent billions in building the greatest art collection you have never heard of.

After that will head up through Nashville to see the wildly eccentric Lane auto museum before heading up to Toronto.

May my OH will spend in Japan ( she is not Japanese but reads and speaks it fluently). I have a few things to get the 911s back on the road and there is a recall on the 992.

Heading for Germany late August and renting a car to do some German/Swiss touring. Want to see the new National Motor Museum and some stuff over in Basel also.

The 992RS should arrive in Germany early September from Canada. Very impractical for touring as no luggage space so we will take two cars over to Zell am See for a wonderful event there .

After the Zell event OH will fly to London for a week while I go solo to the Nürburgring for a few days. I can put my bag on the passenger seat.

Meet up again in Frankfurt for a day or two and then back to Canada.

October the winter cycle repeats and go down to reopen house. There is a house minder but the extreme heat always causes some failure. The cars there are older and I usually have some failure. Thinking about trading in the Jeep for a more current (non-Hybrid) one.

Climate change has been beneficial in Canada( we basically had no winter in Toronto-zero snow to shovel) but AZ is now unbelievably hot in summer so I approach the reopening with some trepidation.

The rest of the year I will muddle through. I will be 76 this Fall so this will be my last Nürburgring trip and I will not buy another RS. At some point in the next few years I will get rid of them as I will be too old to drive them. As it is the 992 is not the easiest car to get into with its non-adjustable lightweight buckets.

There will be the usual drives to NY and Philadelphia but they are easy from Toronto.

This is the first year since I was 11 that I have not worked and still have mixed feelings but so far so good. Zero financial issues so no worries on that score. Like me my Great Dane is now senior and would be 11 this Fall and is failing sadly. I will not get another large dog as I have to consider that it might last till I would be 85 and outlive me.

Apparently they are quite rare.

Never increased premiums though which was a mistake.

Put more value on cars and holidays

I am happy to say that I will be joining the ranks enjoying retirement tomorrow. Returning computer and phone and that will be it. “What are you going to do?” - “Whatever I want!” I certainly don’t have a grand plan, just intend to enjoy the summer and try to work out the new dynamic of no more 9 to 5 after 40 years with the same company.
I think it will be a bit strange not having the comfort of a monthly salary, but my calculations indicate everything should work out OK and when I get my state pension in 2 years time I will be fine.

Congrats, & welcome to TUG - The Unemployable Gang hehe

Your plan to not over-plan sounds absolutely fine to me….I’m sure after 40 years at one place, you will find time and space to figure things out.

We have just over 2 more weeks left here in Les Arcs….snow forecast for the weekend and temperatures set to drop, which will help the slushier conditions lower down….170km skied so far, plenty more ahead. Today was a rest & shopping day: we have a good pal joining us for a week on Saturday, then our son for our last 10 days…..other friends are out for next week too, so certainly working hard to meet the title of the thread biggrin

I also have a ‘big’ b’day later in the year, & have got our fave local comedy MC agree to put on an exclusive evening for a bunch of our pals at the local micro/community pub: something a bit different for most of them, should be a blast!
