Sold mine at just over 16p this morning, think it's run out of steam for now.
The story is only just unfolding, three majors are fighting over just the first resource, AGM on Thursday, more offers on the table tomorrow to edge this up, cant see the worlds largest mining operation(BHP Billiton) taking to kindly to SOLG rejection of their offer, world class resource on offer for some one

Out!? Not a chance I added a 1/4 more yesterday. I like that the consensus is wait for one more dip to buy it, it should get going today.
If your trying to short term trade this is going to be an absolute chop-fest, know your stop and just put it in the bottom draw and come back to it in a few months.

Overall US market testing major trend-lines, so far bit of technical damage but doesn't get too ugly as long as 2110 Spx holds.

No surprise to see FTSE 100 dipping below 7000 again today. I've been trimming holdings through the late summer boom (lots is up 15% since April) and wonder where things will be headed next.

Every time I see Boris Johnson on TV I use that as my prompt to review investments,

• I’ve just seen Boris Johnson on TV today

• BBC reports Unilever is trying to screw Tesco and British customers

• Bloomberg reports Brits have shot themselves in the foot and will just have to get used to paying >10% more for imports.

Who to believe?? Well that's not hard.....

.... so promptly sold some more UK.

Gdx wise imo you want to be seeing that $24 reclaimed tomorrow otherwise you open the door for the 20's next.
It hasn't got above 24 so wasn't sure if you'd have sold out to get in cheaper later. I'm still in, but waiting until it's a little more clear as to what will happen before picking up some more.

I get you, no wasn't intending to get out and try and catch it lower just in case I miss it by getting to cute, idea was to scale in up until $19, but saw a reversal pattern yesterday so added to it, running a full position now. It's getting there albeit with a bit less momentum than usual, will be a slow choppy grind up, hopefully pays for some decent bottles of whisky wink otherwise it will be moonshine.

NRS,
You kindly pointed me at some GOLD positions, which I've been exploring, but come up with a couple of obstacles:

  • For example, my Broker account doesn't offer the GDX VanEck Vectors...only the Junior version.
  • Taking the SGLD, they will Offer this, but the spred is enormous
Indicative: Bid:10039.5779 Mid:11373.5994 Ask:12774.8137

Is that normal, such a massive spread ?

Thanks if you see this. Big Ant

I'm still waiting on 88e to jump like HNR did. It's well overdue

HNR Market cap still below £25m; looks very undervalued to me, but I am very much the amateur.

The warrants should clear any time now... once they do, I'm hoping the handbrake is released and we head nearer to the magic £1 a share mark

I've had a new guy at work and he's banging on about how much he's made on shares etc.... how he gets great advice from a guy he knows from fishing/ shooting etc.... the level of money he's been mentioning making so easily I want to call BS on it, because if it was that easy for him, then he definitely shouldn't be working!

his current big tips are:

HNR- highland natural resources
CTAG- Cloud Tag
88E- 88 energy

I've had a quick look on each of these and they do seem to have some interesting propositions, but I'd liken his 'investment strategy' more like gambling and think he'd prob be as well playing blackjack/ roulette, or am I the one being naïve?

Depends when he first identified these. They have all spiked massively in the last year. Was he in them before it happened? If so he has done well, if he is only just getting in, he has probably just looked at some shares which have done well recently and jumped in without any research hoping it will continue. He may have gotten lucky.

A common delusion is for people to celebrate/shout about their wins and hide/not talk about their losses. I think its partly self-delusion as much as it is to portray to others.

As you say, if you could regularly recreate such gains, these people wouldn't be doing a 9-5.

I've had some phenomenal gains and the majority of these have been AIM and oil/gas based. I've also had some phenomenal losers (as in they have gone to zero or as near as damn it) - again, these have always been AIM and predominantly in O&G! I could crow on about the winners and avoid discussing the latter but it isn't the true picture.

No different to those who tell you about how many times they walk out of the casino up.

Sadly its often a case of the rough with the smooth - they often balance out. Overall when I weigh up my riskier stocks and offset the losers from the winners I would say the net gain has been slightly better than if I had stuck with safer FTSE100/250 stock (which would have carried far less risk).
