I tried, half heartedly, to convince my wife the we should take Martin Lewis' advice and SORNd the winnings on Lottery tickets for tonight.

That was a no.

Nothing this month on 50K. About the same as I would have got from the bank.

You're with the wrong bank. Mine would have given me £2.08 on that £50k.

I had circa £30k in my bank for a month or two for a house deposit.
Had to laugh when I got about £1.10 interest for the month... Lol.

It's a few years back now but I remember having a business account that had £15-20k in and would get £50-70 a month interest ...that dropped to pennies overnight!

What's the minimum amount you need to hold to keep the account open? Can I withdraw everything but a quid or does it have to be, say, £100?

Mine has £11 still in it - they were a gift in 1959 and not won anything from them that I know of smile
Cashed my main holding in a couple of years ago, but am considering putting money back into them again as rates everywhere are so bad.

Article in FT money today "...can be cashed almost instantly, prizes are tax-free, little risk that [gov't] will default. ..an option for affluent people who have maximised their allownances for putting money into tax-efficient savings vehicles such as ISAs and pensions."

Also discussion elsewhere in financial pages about EIS investments. Sadly renewables no longer allowed.

I consider premium bonds a very poor place to put money; perhaps that means I'm not an "affluent person"?

I like how they've changed the app so it doesn't even tell you that you haven't won now. Just "30 days until the next result".
